Did any of you out there, manage to catch the RWC Opening Ceremony last night at Eden Park, here in little old Auckland, NZ?

If so what did you think? I worked at the venue, but sadly missed most of it, did manage to meet and greet many visiters from around the globe.

Just wanted ya thoughts, if any?

Cheers and GO the ALLBLACKS{sm3}

Wallabies to win!

All Blacks to choke in semis {sm4}

Yeah thanks for that Ruskie, I should have known an Aussi would have been the first to reply.....ha ha{sm4}

We won't mention our good mates the French.{sm2}

The Wallabies might get whipped by some mad Irishman next Saturday yet:tongue:{eek3}

I enjoyed the opening ceremony. The All Blacks as usual were impressive.
For us the competition starts this weekend with the Springboks vs Wales.
Tally Ho

Great to see it kick of last night , The scots just sneeked past Romania today.
The weather is looking OK at the moment in Wellington for the Boks versus Wales tommorow
which should be a good game.
I,m taking my boys to see Scotland play Argentina so that will be my first RWC game.
Go the AB,s :smile2:.

I am getting excited about the whole thing.
Good luck to everyone and especially to our American and Canadian friends.
The RWC is a great way of growing the game in places where it is a niche sport.
It is going to be great.

Yeah a special welcome to the USA team who play against the Irish tomorrow on the 11th of the 9th.

Its really great seeing so many different oversea's teams and fans here having a ball.:tongue::cool:

Cheers

England managed a tight win over Argentina , odd to see England Playing in a Black strip but a good test match.

I do not like the England black jersey.
It is not right.
It should be white.

Argentina are a good team.
Why are England playing in Black?

Damian ,
I am not sure ? at a Guess I would say it could come down too sponsors trying to gain a bit of
extra exposure with a little controversy [ the AB,s having adidas as our main sponsor and England Nike].
To me It just didnt look like an English team so is a bit of a misfire imo .
The weather is still looking nice outside for tonight so hopefully it stays that way .

Am watching the replay as we speak and it just does not look right.
Maybe they will play in green and gold next.

I also didn't like the English jersey. It seemed so wrong. However I don't restrict my dislike just to this jersey. As rugby has become professional over the last 15 years this is one of the prices paid. Growing up with rugby in the 70s and 80s there was just one strip each team had and no body had any issues. The domestic rugby teams of NZ had well made jerseys with a strip which seldom changed over a decade. Now we have an annual change of jerseys. Sometimes until I hear commentry I can't even work out which team is which. Recently my beloved Cantebury were playing in black and white (looked like Auckland?). Anyway this is the way it goes and I enjoyed the England/Argentina match all the same.

The world champions made heavy weather against Wales today.

I thought Wales where a little unlucky not to topple the Boks last night a really hard fought game.
The way guys are tearing into the tackle these days I am suprised there are not more injurys .

Sounds like the ref didn't help things either, they certainly don't get much closer than that. No real upsets thus far though, maybe the Irish can knock over the Wallabies this Saturday......teehee{sm2}

I have been really impressed with the standard of rugby in the cup so far. There was a time when too many of the RWC games of the past had been one sided affairs. Great to see more balance in the games. It looks like the distance between the rugby powers and minnows is not as great as it once was.
