Hi,
I picked this Mounted Russian Studio Figure - looks like some sort of Turk. Anyhow, I got it in an auction lot, it is fairly high quality, but appears to be missing what he was holding in the raised hand, does anyone know who this figure is or what I am missing?

Thanks!
Tom

Tom,

I suspect that he would be holding a banner/flag in his raised hand.

Going on the colours of his clothing AND the Tri-colour rosette on the side of his turban, I'd also guess that he is one of the mounted dromedaries that Napoleon had with him in Egypt c 1799.

Sorry, I don't have anything to confirm this, its just my observations,

John

Agree that it could be a French soldier from Napoleon's Egyptian campaign.
A period musket would work or a French flag.

Thanks very much, I just couldn't find the studio as it is unmarked on the base. It is not of recent vintage in the last few years, based on the auction it came out of it was made about 7-10 years ago. I will go with a musket I think, I have a guy who can make one to match I hope!!!

Hi Tom, I'm not familiar with this particular figure but can tell you it was made in Russia by Amber studios. By the positioning of the arm it looks like the figure was once supporting a flag. There is a spot on his coat where it appears the base of something was once glued. The angle of this spot relative to his hand orientation might help you estimate what was once there. Sorry I can't be of more help with this one.

Joe, I think you are right! I just wish I could find a picture in order to have it replicated. I may ask Alexey at SB, maybe he can find it!

Another pic, showing similar head dress and a spear ? flag ?

I asked Aleksey from SB and his first thought is that it should be a gun, he is looking into for me in St. Pete. Hopefully I can procure the piece, it has sat on the TBD shelf for too long!!!

Thanks for all the help!

Tom
