I had a collector friend ask me if I could cut two Saxon huts I made in half so he could use them as backdrops for his display case. The full buildings did not work in his space and this would give him the appearance of more buildings and use less space. He sent me a photo and they were displayed with various manufactures vehicles and figures represent armies fighting on the Eastern Front in WWII. I suggested that as long as I was at it I could make them more representative for his needs by converting the shells into something that would complement his collection. This would include brick chimneys, window glass, modified the roofing and other details. Here are the end results, and although they are not models of any specific structures, they display characteristics that fit the part better than the original 8th century Saxon style buildings. I also built two small sections of fencing with their own separate bases so the buildings can be arranged in a number of different configurations, suggesting a village environment.

I set them up on a scenic board to photograph them and used scenic scatter to blend them in to the scenery. I also decided to see how it looked with an old Forces of Valor T34-85 that I had epoxy puttied over the large seams and screw holes to make a little more appealing and then repainted it in sort of a “Cross of Iron” scheme. These buildings will be used on glass shelving to allow light to illuminate multiple levels of his collection, but I wanted to see what they looked like in a setting with a printed backdrop. I never use photo shop in my photos so you can see real world results that anyone can replicate in their own displays.
