Russian Hussars at Borodino (2 Viewers)

They're released now Comrade Heidski.

Oh?
Now that's rather interesting First Commissar.
Please don’t read anything into this because I’m also extremely interested in somewhat more modern Russian figures, but by application of some artistic license, I do believe these could serve to represent Russian Hussars from around 1800 to around 1860.
So, I’m presently thinking long and hard about ordering up one of these rather tasty mounted figures just to see if they might fit in with a certain diorama I’m planning.
Hmmm, given how long subversive items such as miniature figurines take to clear UK and USA customs, I do wonder if I were to order 1 or maybe even 2 of them – might I once again be among the select handful of collectors world-wide to actually get my hands first on newly-released First Legion figures?

Cheers

A closer look has that dolman at Green, sorry to go off topic.

"Who are they? Why are they running? Can it be they're running to me? Can it be? And why? To kill me? Me, whom everybody loves so?"

The English dubbing was... "But everyone likes me!?!"

The more times I take a casual glance at those wonderful looking figures the more I can feel my steely resolve crumbling.

Ummm.....When did you say these are going to be released Mister Legion?

Cheers

Well First Commissar it looks like one or two of your boxes made it safely to Beijing.
IMG_0612.jpg

In fact I’d say that a total of 12 of your boxes made it to Beijing.
IMG_0613.jpg

Only one problem with the order and that was a plume that I myself broke off in my excitement when unpacking the first box.
IMG_0615.jpg

Excitement that I hope shall be excused when you see these wonderful figures lined up.
IMG_0614.jpg

In actual fact, we picked up some other Russian Hussars this morning as well.
IMG_0619.jpg

The other Hussars are just a teensy-weensy bit from a different era – but they still look good together.
IMG_0621.jpg

OMG – and there’s even some Hairy Barbarians in the mix.
IMG_0616.jpg

Actually, there a couple of 17th Lancers and a few Russian Gunners in the mix as well – but they were left in the boxes for this photo-shoot that took place in our hotel this afternoon.
IMG_0617.jpg

And what’s more, I’m not at all certain that Missus Heid actually realizes that SHE’S humping all this metal home with her on Saturday – while I escape to Thailand for the next month.
IMG_0618.jpg

Having said that, I reckon comprehension is beginning to dawn on her as to WHY I insisted on taking an empty suitcase on the flight from Dalian to Beijing last night.

Now, I wouldn’t presume to claim that I’m the first collector in the world to get my hands on this new FL release, (as I was with the 1st Samurai figure release), but I’m surely ONE of the FIRST....????

Now where did I put that Stolichnia Vodka?

Cheers
Very Happy Comrade Heidski

Great collection. Congratulations. Wonderful line-up.

But I am not totally surprised you had to move your residence to the "Cheapest Hotel in Beijing I could find."

:D

Actually Andanna - that residence description isn't quite true, because I'm in Beijing primarily on company business on this occasion.
Gimme a few minutes cos I'm still processing the photos - then have a look in my "More Random Photos From Beijing" thread in the Miscellaneous section of the forum.

Excellent line up indeed Harry. You can't go wrong with those guys. Congratulations on your delivery and your shipping exploits.

Now that you have your own full Hussar regiment, we have seen fit to promote you to Commissar Heidski. And yes, as with the Samurai figures, you are the first person in the world to get these. As of this writing, the 12 you are displaying and the 24 Hussars behind me, are the only First Legion Russian Hussars in the world currently on display. However, reinforcements have recently been dispatched to all corners of the globe and boxes should be popping open over the next few days.

I look forward to when you get a chance to set these guys up on one of your proper displays back in Dalian and seeing the images on the forum. Should be great stuff.

Dasvidanya,

Matt

Why thank you for your very kind remarks Mr Frnd.
I do admit the shipping exploits take a fair bit of logistical planning, but I'm extremely lucky in that my partner in crime tends to go along with my miniature figurine collecting plans to a much greater extent than I could ever have believed possible when I first got her interested in this facinating hobby.
And yes, I agree completely - you simply can't go wrong with these guys, or any other figures in FL's lineup of products.

Regards
Harry

Well, its nice to be a Commissar at times Mr Legion. Gives you the chance to boss lesser mortals around as you see fit - I suppose.
I have in fact been down "Arbot Street" in Moscow myself during my return from dire straits in Siberia (1994, I think it was) and do recognise the salutation.
I hope the popper's open of boxes worldwide receive the same sense of pleasure I experienced when I myself popped open my boxes - and I do thank you for your efforts in getting them to me so expediciously.

You can take it as something inevitable that I'll be entering yet another order for your wonderful miniature figurines over the next few weeks as the opportunity presents itself. A rather more historically recent Russian scenario springs to mind perhaps?

Dasvidanya and Spaceiba (spelling) to You and Yours Too.

Ahh, Arbot Street...I miss Moscow. I think I need to go back and visit again soon. It's been too long since last I was drinking vodka a few blocks from Red Square. Vodka just seems to taste better there....

As for your next foray into our figures, well, then you can really play Commissar. Hmm....perhaps we'll produce a Commissar Heidski figure. You do resemble a bit Kruschev from the movie Enemy at the Gates, as such your likeness would make an excellent WWII Russian Commissar! :D

Who knew that our Russian Hussars would be serving time in the Crimea! I'm really glad you like the figures Harry.

Best,

Matt

That's a brilliant idea. Me and Bob Hoskins do look similar I suppose. We're both height-challenged, weight-challenged, follically-challenged, and downright ugly-challenged as well.
But for some unknown reason, we're both an absolute hit with the ladies.
:cool::cool::cool:
Must be cos we afford a sense of security that's completely removed from the reality of our nefarious intentions.
Yup a Commissar Heidski figure sounds like a winner to me.

Beautiful figures. Ochen Krassiva as the Russians would say. It's a pity that the Voltiguer downrange shot the plume off that trooper's shako.

Beautiful figures. Ochen Krassiva as the Russians would say. It's a pity that the Voltiguer downrange shot the plume off that trooper's shako.

It was the excited 12-year old Heid who's dumb-cluck clumsiness when opening the box shot the plume off the trooper's shako.
:eek::eek:
It's something I'm prone to do at times but it's a clean break and nothing that a spot of superglue won't fix.

Similarly to my other favourite manufacturer, First Legion's packaging is extremely professional and offers the protection my figures need - considering the way I cram them into my airline luggage in the effort to avoid more than 20kg of hold luggage at the check-in desk. I've even been known to throw my laptop into my hold luggage and put as many miniature figurines as I can get into my carry-on computer bag in the hope of avoiding crippling luggage charges.
Unfortunately, my usual cheeky grin has, (incredible as it may sound...???), been known to fail on occasion, and I've still incurred extra charges for overweight luggage by the hard-hearted ladies at check-in.
:eek::(

And then of course, getting painted metal miniature figurines and accessories through Hong Kong Airport security can lead to almost surreal Monty Python-esque comedy.
"Please remove your laptop and put it through the scanner Sir?"
"Umm, I don't have a laptop in there."
"But that's a computer bag? What do you have in there if not a laptop Sir?"
"Eeerr, ugh, Medieval Japanese Samurai Warriors/Greek Hoplites/Model Trees & Bushes/Zulu Warriors/Saracens from the 1st Crusade/WWII Tiger Tanks/Kilted and Extremely Hairy North-British Barbarians firing at Russian Hussars in The Crimea/etc."
 "I think you'd better come with us Sir......"
Once safely escorted into the security room and I show the guys what's in my bag, the straight-jacket is put back in it's container; and it's invariably smiles all round, and generally very real interest in the examples of miniature art, that are to be new additions to our collection.

And then on arrival at the Dalian end, there's been some rather "interesting" discussions with customs officials. (Hong Kong to Chinese Mainland flights are still classed as International arrivals). The officials seem to be getting used to me though and it's been gradually becoming easier.
"More presents for your wife's extended family Mister Heid?"
"Ugh, eeerr, how did you guess?."
Chinese people don't generally wink at folk, but the smiles on the official's faces amount to the same thing.
I'm almost getting around to believing that they, themselves, look forward to seeing what "the crazy gweilo's bringing home this time".
On this occasion, it's the Missus who's taking the latest loot home - but it's an internal flight, (Beijing > Dalian), so I don't anticipate her having any problems on arrival.

I'm aware I have a tendency to drone on and on, but it's interesting that as I write this we're presently in our hotel room watching a documentary on Chinese TV about, believe it or not - the German invasion of Norway in 1940.
I hope Mister Legion's looking in. The invasion of Norway has just gotta be more worthwhile doing than some vague and obscure WWII battle on the Volga that no-one's all that interested in.....
:p:p :D:D

I just found this on the Russian site showing FL's paint masters - a new previously unpublished figure. Could this be the paint master for Commissar Heidski?

:D:D:D:D
Very droll guy's.
Actually, that's a brilliant website and I've added it to my favourites folder so's I can get back to it tonight/tomorrow morning.
Missus H has taken it into her head to go do some last-minute shopping - and for reason's known only to herself, I'm getting reluctantly dragged along.

Yeah - I was hoping that series of posts would provide a good laugh for fellow forum members.
Just one thing in your response tends to puzzle me, my undead friend; I thought you were already, metaphorically speaking, ummm....slain.

Cheers
