Sabering U.S. cavalrymen (1 Viewer)

I really like the JJD US cavalry line. it's one of my favorite subjects. And these are interesting. they both have un-piped shell jackets.

No yellow trim. Which was common. Also the slouch hats are a nice departure, very common especially late war and in the west.

The thing I do not like about all of these is the odd sock like stirrup covers. nothing at all like the actual ones used. they should either have none, or fix these?
These two soldiers also have no pistols? a Union cavalryman could always get a pistol. and I would not fight mounted without one. And one of these guys has a cartridge box but no carbine. and no pistol? AND.... their hat cords are not yellow but red, or orange and black? Engineers? Signal corps? ordinance? odd. John Jenkins, if you would like help, I'm here for ya.

You bring up good points, some of which I missed earlier. The fig is of the 2nd Cavalry Reg't which traced it origins back to the 2nd Dragoons which had orange piping, although it looks red in the photo.

I would like to see him cover the US Army of the Plains Indian War pre-1860.
