After at least 3 years sabbatical, we are very pleased to start the pre-order of the next figures in our Age of the Samurai series. For these figures, rather than focus on Nagashino specific figures, we have decided to create some stunning individual fighting Samurai figures. With superb sculpting and a tremendously high level of hand painting, these are certainly (along with the old SAM005) the finest figures yet created for the series. Luckily, fans of the series won't have too wait to wait another three years for the next release, as additional figures are coming in just a few months. We hope you find the new figures well worth the wait!

SAM037 Samurai Warrior Attacking with Katana $109.95
SAM038 Samurai Warrior Attacking with Katana and Sashimono $109.95
SAM039 Samurai Warrior Attacking with Naginata $109.95
SAM040 Samurai Warrior Fighting with Dual Katanas $109.95
Ships Early May

Unbelievable figures!!! Cannot wait for these arrive!!!

They look great Matt! I was really hoping for some Samurai w/ katana in this round.

The level of painting looks like it meets Aeroart's level of painting. And cheaper!

I do love the samurai figures presented here in full battle regalia. SAM038 - 040 are my favorites. SAM040 - it looks like Ie Naomasa in total defensive position.:smile2:

Im glad we're getting basic samurai figures not attached to a specific battle or time. i would love to see a Takeda Shingen or Toyotomi Hideyoshi.

It will be quite a while for Matt to get that running. You and I are pretty much tracking this series more as compared to some. Its getting there eventually..

Just placed my pre-order for these! I keep looking at these photos and these are simply one of the finest figures released my FL.

Hopefully we see a couple cavalry with future releases.

The fighting sets are stunningly done with the level of this painting I could see the difference as compared from the earlier sets. SAM039 is wearing a "jinbaori" (surcoat) over his yoroi.
Some upper class samurai don't usually have a sashimono on them but rather a ashigaru carries the samurai's family emblem. I'm trying to figure out who could be this Samurai.

And while you are at it: Is SAM40 necessarily a samurai from the LI clan? I think red was quite common and may not necessitate that assumption. What do you think?

I have a question too for the SAM40.
My first impression was that it is Li Naomasa, with that particular helmet.
It's just that Li Naomasa is portrayed in various pictures in his red armor and this specific helmet.
Would other Samurais be "allowed" to wear a helmet decorated in the same way like one of their leaders?
Just curious.

Konrad

Konrad, I think the helmet is different. This is a "cheaper" version with the "horns" being attached to the front of the helmet, while Li Naomasa's were on top of the helmet for example. I hence do not believe this is Li Naomasa, but it could be a daimyo of the clan serving the master.

This is the picture of Ii Naomasa armor (upper case I and lower case i) from Hikone Castle located between Nagoya and Kyoto, Japan.
A little about him, distinguished himself as a brave fighter. Following the Tokugawa Ieyasu transfer to the Kanto in 1590, Naomasa, who rose in rank rapidly despite his relative youth he was given at 12,000 koku (fief) and was given Minowa castle.

In regards to my previous post about the armor in line with the preview released by First Legion, I was looking directly on the kabuto(helmet)..I know for a fact that it belongs to Ii Naomasa because he is the only one who wears this specific kabuto. He was noted for dressing his men in red armor, and his contnigent was often known as Ii's "Red Devils" When Ii Naomasa died of his wounds at the Battle of Sekigahara due to a teppou(metal gun) fire by a foot soldier from the Western Army, Ii Naotaka, his son inherited his kabuto and his armor...Ii Naomasa armor are considered heirlooms of his family that have to be passed down to his heir.

Now, the figure can either be Ii Naomasa or Ii Naotaka, though FL did not mentioned this, in my own judgement I can use this either way to any scenario.

Gents, please follow along. Yes, the red color armor is common during those period...but this armor originated from one of Takeda Nobutora (father of Takeda Shingen) Generals, Obu Toramasu, hence "The Red Regiment" was created. Apparently Obu Torumasa was charged with treason and executed. Obu Toramasa red regiment was passed down to his brother, Yamagata Masakage.

Yamagata Masakage was one of the fiercest of the Takeda warriors. He commanded the Takeda's left wing along with his outfitted almost completely in blood-red armor for psychological impact. He was shot down from his horse assaulting the Oda/Tokugawa lines at the Battle of Nagashino in 1575.....guess who was in Nagashino under Oda Nobunaga/Tokugawa side?...Ii Naomasa. Ie Naomasa adopted the famed red regiment after Tokugawa took over the Takeda lands and Tokugawa Ieyasu inquired into the tactics Takeda Shingen had employed on the battlefield.

Gents, hope this helps...

Either Ii Naomasa or his son Ii Naotaka. They are the only one who wears this typical armor and Kabuto.....

Kogu, to answer your question. "Would other Samurais be "allowed" to wear a helmet decorated in the same way like one of their leaders?"

I have to look into this on one my references regarding Japanese Armor and Helmet. Though their is one Samurai at the battle of Sekigahara who is the leader of the Western Army, Ishida Mitsunari. Check this out even though not in red armor but the kabuto is almost similar to Ie Naomasa

You are absolutely right. I confused the helmet with that of SAM 39. So now there is a high probability that this is the famous Li Naomasa.

Just in case FL is considering a Samurai on the way to the fight, I want to suggest the following:

My order is in to Treefrog and can't wait until they join others in my collection. The new price was a bit of a shock, but in all honesty they look to be very good value for the price.
