A second Saratoga set up.
Since they started coming out, the 2nd Mass figures were my favorites. So I decided to make a display using these figures.
Also used the JJD farm house and rail fences. Added some extra vegetation tot he edge of the fences and house and bits of vegetation throughout.
Also sprinkled in some figures of militia, lets call them late arriving recruits. Like the variety.

Some more images and WIP images.
One of the glass doors of the display cabinet, refused to be removed, so I had to figure out a way to get the base inside the display cabinet. Came up with the idea of cutting the base along the fence and then hide it once in place with the house and fence pieces, plus dirt and vegetation. In one of the images is all the vegetation, glues etc that I use to add the details all around the base. The backdrop is from Hudson and Allen

Here the base, all but finished before adding the figures. The figures are just placed on the base, not glued in any way, so I could make changes or display other figures.

Stunning diorama! The figures really get brought to life when you display them in a diorama like this.

I really like how you painted and brushed the base. Very nicely done. I am still on the fence whether hiding the figure bases is better than the clean look that you have chosen. I do dioramas with both. Cannot decide.

Once again Eduardo, you have presented us with a fantastic diorama featuring your JJD figures. I continue to be fascinated by the results you have achieved with the use of a styrofoam base and woodland scenics material. Absolutely stunning. You have given me something to think about trying myself.

Thanks guys! The advantage of this method is the flexibility of moving or changing to other figures. These figures are so nice that the eye of the viewer is not distracted by the base.
but being styrofoam, burying the figures would be tedious but not hard. I'm working now on an ancient set up and I'm using a Thomas Gunn wagon with oxes, which I decided to bury. No flexibility there. Thought of detaching the base, but decided against it, I was afraid of damaging the wagon and oxes.

Very well laid out. Beautiful without the figures as well. Keep 'em coming.

Eduardo,

I love this set up!! You did an awesome job with the vegetation and the ground bases. Very inspiring!

You made great use of the figures and everything comes together perfectly here!! I too have blended in lots of militia with the various Continental units in my displays.

Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing.

Mark
