Some beautiful figures made only better by your impressive display. Really like the ground cover.

Wow! That is amazing! I LOVE your groundwork. It is some of the best I have seen. That's a fantastic collection you have, an they are arranged just right on your composition. The photos are really nice and so eye pleasing. Thank you! Joe

That is some excellent groundwork. Did you do it yourself? Or have it commissioned? If so who did it for you?

Do these scenic bases myself. If you belong to the JJD FB page, I posted a WIP post with many images and details of the build.

I like your diorama a real lot and all of your other contributions to the forum. It's hard to accurately portray a scene as it happened historically because we are using toy soldiers that are fixed in the one position. You have done a real good job of showing the Saxons coming down off the slope but maybe it's too steep. I doubt that the Normans would have been able to get anywhere near the Saxons if this was the case. My own diorama is shown on flat ground which is incorrect but portraying cavalry going up a slope is very hard. These points are just a reflection of the hobby with no criticism intended as i always enjoy what you contribute. You have a real talent. Regards Greg.

Thanks for your comments. Agree completely. My steps might have been better if 1/2 inch instead of 1 inch. Also, it is trickupy to add texture, but also avoid figures tipping over. I really like that in this one I made steps to the rear, which alliwed some of the trees in the “reverse slope” which made the trees blend in nicely with the backdrop. One item I gave a lot f consideration was adding fall colors to the trees. The backdrop had no color, so I left the trees “as is”. In retrospect, the backdrop trees are hardly visible, so a little experimenting with a dusting of yellow and orange in some of the foilage might have given a mire accurate depictiin given the date of the battle. With the types of trees I used in this case, I believe the effect would have worked.
Might guve it a shot at a later time. On the other hand, maybe it was a late fall in 1066!
also of note, my original plans were for two battle scenes of Saxons v Vikings and Saxons v Normans. That was the reason I ended up with so many Saxons. Then decided for a large set up and after setting the figures up, then decided on the base. Decided to display the Normans and Vikings in separate glass shelves, towards the viewer. The Saxon figures looked great, but I they “deserved” a base. Also being on a wooden shelf, weight was not an issue.
Thanks again for your comments. You reasoned, as I did, to have part of the shield walk charging down the hill! These miniatures are amazing. The detail in each one is spectacular.

Below is my original set up. Decided for a base and got a couple of more Saxons! I plan , and very often, when I set up the figures, I realuze I need “ more”!

Yes the elevation change to the ground really adds to the realism.
