This will be a 4 part diorama project that will take some time to complete. Part 1 is still under construction but i have posted some photos. This is the strong hold where most of the battle takes place and when completed will feature more numerous figures. Parts 2 and 3 will be more village buildings and figures. Part 4 will be the dock and viking ships and arrivals. All these parts will form one large diorama. I hope you follow my progress and enjoy the journey. Regards Greg.

What a great project. This is terrific, love the idea that this is to extend to a bigger diorama. Something to look forward to, please keep posting on this thread. Like the building and the Saxon theme. Robin.

I'm looking forward to seeing how this thread develops :salute::

Cheers

Martyn:)

Looking good Greg, thanks for posting mate.

Great job !

Really like the 'thatch' and 'wood' on the roof.

Looking forward to the growth of your diorama...a lot of work in the plans.

Thank you.

Thankyou all for your comments. I will try and do an update every couple of weeks. As you can appreciate, i have got alot of work with this and other projects ahead of me. Regards Greg.

Greg, great job and look forward to the rest of the diorama. Chris

Great idea for your dio Greg, I look forward to watching this project grow.
Steve

I'm working on the base for the diorama and this will be 2 m x 600 mm in size. The base will have timber molding to contain it. One of the village buildings is also being made. The shape of the dock area can be seen and this will eventually have some beach and a small jetty.

If it's anything like your Rorke's Drift dio, this Saxon scene should be a beauty. Getting a real good idea of size and layout now. Robin.

Greg, that is going to be a pretty big diorama and really looking forward to it. Chris

Thankyou Chris, Robin and Wayne for your comments. Yes it is a fair size but when you have viking ships that are 24'' long, they take alot of space. Iam going to do my biggest water scene yet and i reckon this will take a couple of majic water bottles. One of the problems i will have to work out is that the viking ships have keels and won't sit flat. Iam enjoying the project though and it keeps me busy. Until next time,Regards Greg.

This is looking very interesting.Tell me,where do you get those large sheets of white foam that you use for bases?

Assuming you're not going to be wanting to move the ships around, can you dig deep enough into the polystyrene to accommodate the keel ? Maybe you could get away with adding a thin piece to the water level around the ship if you blend it as a wave or tide.
Steve

I have thought about shaping the foam under the boats to accomodate the keels, Steve. When i do the pour i've just got to keep the majic water from filling into the grooves. I'm thinking of putting a moat around them. Any how that is a while off yet and i have some time to think about it. I want to get the base finished first which will include glueing, plastering and painting. With your question Tony, i know the stores as Clark Rubber but i'm not sure whether they still trade under that name. I will be going past that store tomorrow and will have a look. I will get back to you about that. Anyway, thanks gents for your interest and i hope you continue to follow the project. Regards Greg.

Following and watching how you do the Viking ship will be a great interest.
I am sure to learn a lot.

You have the beginnings of a great diorama.

Thank you.
