Is anyone else aware of the various scale discrepancies? It appears that some of the figures are larger than others. I have the FOV Panzer IV ausf. G with Eastern front camo...the figure that comes with it is considerable smaller than the 5 pack of FOV soldiers I bought recently...all are supposed to be 1:32.

All of the manufacturers have some scale discrepancies. However I agree the FOV Panzer IV ausf G with the Eastern front camo is not one of their better tanks.

Actually, I really like how the tank is painted...I haven't compared it to many references though as I only have an Action series Tiger I (looks like a toy) and three 21st vehicles: Brumbar, Panzer IV D and Stug IV. I'm waiting on an order of three other enthusiast models: sdKfz 251/1, 251/9 and the flak halftrack...I started with 21st, but now I think I'll deep six them in my basement and stick to the FOV enthusiast series.

I prefer the short barreled grey version myself, which I have in a FOV diorama with the KDF and motorbike combo. To me the camo and shields on the ausf G model looks to much, but to each their own as they say.

The figure sets are horrid. Hopefully FOV will come up with something better, we have seen that they have in many of the new sets. Problem is these are not wwII.

Dont deep six your 21st just yet, pick up a paint brush and start some detailing yourself. A combo of the FOV and the 21st makes good sense. Also 21st new figures are really well done. The Japs and Russians are really good. British paras and USMC figures will also be done and these are all very good true 1:32 scale.

Though I understand that I would have to collect both to get a better variety of vehicles, 21st century detail is quite low in comparison to the FOV...

I can see you are a new member, I started with the same question. You have just opened the eternal can of worms. Scale, detail, favorite manufacturers, it is never ending. Firebat

FOV models always seem to have better detail than 21st Century gear, when I have a choice I usually go for the FOV version.

As for figure size - I took some of the German FOV tankers out of their vehicles and compared them to the regular soldiers that came boxed and some GI tankers. And you are correct Rp, the German tank guys are a bit smaller, but then they also appear to be better detailed. Maybe they are based on some earlier 1/35 plastic kit figures. In anycase the size differences are about the same as you find in real life people and not a major problem imho. I've noted that modern day soldiers are even bigger because people tend to eat more than they need these days. Child chubbyness has got so bad downunder that most state schools have now banned candy etc. Let them eat fruit :)

Certain small details impress me. The halftrack with the quad aa on it has a slightly overweight commander and his boots are highly shined...guess the model maker thought they had it easy.

What is your opinion on models that were put together with small gas and missalighned pieces. Do you still keep them for your collection or get another to replace?

I usually check out models before I buy, and if there are multiples of a model I'll line them up side by side and pick the best. I guess I'm fussy, but I've found it improves my collecting experience to have the best detailed item I can get.
