Scenic backdrops (1 Viewer)

Great tip and great shot, thanks Kevin.
However,
where did you get that sky from? I seem to remeber seeing something that colour many years ago, but nowadays, the sky seems a bit... well... greyer.

Cheers
Simon

It actually was grey - if you look carefully to the top you will see the cloud - I find it difficult to predict how they come out until I see them as much depends upon the angle the light hits the lense and I haven't worked it out yet (I am a complete amateur).

I shot this in the same session a couple of weeks ago - different angle different effect - same watery light.

Errr...yeah. 'Complete amateur' is a phrase so often associated with your photos.
If this is the work of a complete amateur, I don't aspire to do anything professional.
I'll have a play around when I get a mo.

Cheers

Thanks for the back handed complement - what I meant was I have never had any training and don't understand the technicalities.

I just point and shoot, so I can't explain much in any technical or knowledgeable way.

:D:D
Whatever you do, you're doing it right and I appreciate the tips you can give along the way.

If Kevin is a "complete amateur", I don't know how you would classify the rest of us.

Watch me get scolded for this one. Non productive haven't seen any photos Brad of what you've added to your treasure chest for awhile.....The Lt.

here's a couple that might be good for Crusaders
Shall send more when I get the chance.
Cheers

Simon

Do you know the country/city of the desert town that I used for my knight?

Thanks,

Randy

Thanks Tim, there's some nice old French town shots there.

Randy, sorry, I missed the query - glad you got the response, as I'm afraid I hadn't got a clue.

I came across this large oversized coffe table book in a book store today and it has lots of scenic pictures in it that are great as back drops and are very large photos and a lot of the photos are over sized and take up both sides of the pages and a few even had fold out flaps making the photos even longer but most of these were ocean veiws but work work as naval back drops.
This book was a book of scenic Ireland but I,m sure there are more scenic books out there like this. The only draw back is the photos are gloss and tend to reflect light and leave blurs or reflections in the photos but still a great book for backdrop photos and the book can stand up if you lean it up against something and just add a few scenic pieces to help blend the figures into the photo background and you get a few nice photos.

Heres a few photos of the book and a small diorama I did with the book as a backdrop.

Those last ones look particularly good. Nice disguise of the book spine.

Thanks Simon! I could have used a taller tree though to hide that spine.:p
That book is great and has lots of nice photos in it.
I,m going to have to go on a hunt to find a few more like it. To bad to photo weren,t on matt paper though, the light reflecting off the paper ruins a lot of the photos so I had to trash a lot of the photos and do some croping to a few others.
On a couple of photos I tried turning out the light and just using the flash of the camera and a few of the photos came out looking like night time or dusk and the reflections looked like fire and smoke in the background and almost looked like a night battle.
The grenadiers are some of Fubars new casts of french troops he,s making I converted a few and painted them up. This is the first 12 of 40 I bought from him. I have the others all half painted already. I,ll post pictures of the rest when I ever get around to painting them up but this first batch of 12 still needs some touching up also. I always see all kinds of stuff I missed when I see them blown up in the photos. Its getting clear to me know that I,m going half blind!:p

I'm still in the process of trying to work out best use of light when taking photos. Those look bang on for my money.

Tim, I did not think the french landed in Ireland! You maybe accused of trying to rewrite history!

I think it coincided with the Rugby World Cup tour of 1813. The French landed, got as far as The Harp and Fiddle pub in Dublin, got drunk, professed their undying love to all other pub patrons and went home again with a hangover. It was a brief but amicable affair.
