Scotland Forever (4 Viewers)

The first time I saw it was actually on the front cover of a commemorative record of Scottish marching songs my father bought, that came out when the regiment was amalgamated in 1971.

I must be fortunate with my wife, as she spent $300.00 this Christmas getting my 'Scotland Forever' print framed for the office and bought me 3 of the new K&C Australian Lighn Horse figures.

I can say that many famous paintings of this period have similar problems, including Lady Butlers. Of course they also make mistakes in terrain, equipment, uniforms and of course the details of the scene they are intended to portray. Artistic license indeed.

Absolutely, me as well. I'm all for artistic license in paintings and films so long as they convey the essence of the matter, which of course this one does.

Thanks for pointing that out, that is one of my favorite all time paintings, remember that one too from my childhood, it was my cousins favorite as a kid so I bought him a framed copy to hang in his mancave for his birthday several years ago, the look on his wifes face when he tore off the wrapping paper was priceless.

I thought she was going to grab the painting and smash it over our heads..................

Warrior that's a funny story It has always been one of if not my all time favorite painting from the Napoleonic era . I have had a framed copy hanging somewhere in my house for a long time . I don't know what it is with the ladies and Military art but I have gotten that same look several times over the years.... **** you'd think it was a velvet Elvis ! I'm sure he was so happy to receive it from you , that way her hands were tied ..All the best Gebhard

Gebhard, That painting had the same effect on me as a 7th grader when I found David Howarth's book " Waterloo Day of Battle" at the school library.Have a beautiful framed print over the fireplace as well as Lady Butler's " Scotland Forever" here in the family room. I still marvel at the detail and at some point in the not too distant future hope to recreate the scene in miniature.Been holding out for First Legion Cuirassier's ! I have somewhere around 40 assorted metal Cuirassier , various makers, various quality , all nice and suitable. Afraid they'll be assigned as Rear ranker background troops
once the FL are available.
Scot's Grey's?Highlanders? Yes, Can't resist.

Fubar I understand where your coming from , If these were the rejects (two of the three belong to First Legion) ,, not good enough then when First Legion decides to release their Cuirassier's it gonna be a Great day for their fans.... I would love to see your finished display. All the best Gebhard

These aren't rejects at all as we've never produced the Cuirassiers (well, not for you all to buy - we've made them for our own personal collections which is what the website images are ) We've made some small changes to them, but otherwise, they'll be very smiliar to what you see on our website. It's really just a matter of slotting them in for production. We've just launched the French Carabiniers, so we'll probably wait a bit before producing these (though not too long!).

This is great discussion as all the childhood memories are coming back as this artwork goes back a long time (just like I do).

The painting team that did the cyclorama were french, so many of the French military and scenic influences worked their way into the finished product, namely white pants, french napsacks, florial touches and haystacks as well.

Bottom line is as Bill said none of this takes away from the end result, spectacular pieces of artwork that have stood the test of time.

She even had the "Moe Howard" scowl going to, it was pretty comical.

Maybe I should have given him a velvet Elvis painting instead.........

Sorry about that , Guess I was under the assumption that they were getting the same treatment as the OLD Guard received an upgrade, therefore not yet up to your standard . About that "PRIVATE COLLECTION " how can I get in on that action ? Gebhard

Nah, the Old Guard thing was entirely different. That was a case of a factory just producing figures that we hated, so we started over. For those of you who have received the recently released Old Guard figures, I think they're some of our best, so I hope you agree we made the right decision!

The figures that we personally have in our private collections that we haven't released yet are all painted in Russia, so you'd have to triple-quadruple our retail prices if you wanted them. We used to offer this is a service, but the overwhelming majority of collectors feel our production figures are good enough and a far better value in terms of price/quality than the same figures with Russian paint jobs on them. I tend to agree with them and even I wait for the production figures for my own collection now.

Well you simply cannot have too many French Heavy Cavalry, or Napoleonic troops at all for that matter.
I'll be displaying my Waterloo collection this June and would love to add the Cuirassier and Carabiner { among other units} .I'm not going to bother setting up another Waterloo Cavalry attack without them. A must have.

I see that Matt from First Legion has now posted twice on this thread and not made any comment regarding the Scots Greys.

I wonder whether we can infer from this silence, that they're on their way.

They do have the following on their web-site :-

"Of course, we continue to sculpt all sorts of new figures, but unfortunately, moving forward we will only show very little of them on our workbench due to the need to protect the information about what we're releasing. So please remember that what is shown here is only a tiny fraction of what we actually have and that most new items will never be shown here and will just suddenly become available!"

Matt please allow me a day or so, before you deflate this particular dream.

I think the only thing that can be inferred is that I clearly post to this forum too much when people are reading into it when i haven't responded to something!

Yes, we're releasing them in April. April 1st to be exact. Look for the announcement then.

Well for all you with a passion for the Greys I think you should take heart in the same manner I have for the Green Jackets and the Dragoon Guards. Matt has several times before said that they will do all the Waterloo icons. The Foot Guards, the French line, the French Guard, the Scots, the Cuirassiers, the Rifles, the The Dragoon Guards and the the 2nd Royal Dragoons are ALL Waterloo icons. I think you can see from the releases to date, those announced and those conceded in earlier posts that we will see the Greys, all in good time. Patience young padawans.
