Sdkfz 253 (1 Viewer)

Guy...

Thank you there is not much I have done that you could not. I was just asked to make it more of a supply medic kubel rather than carrying wounded. Bit of painting to do where the stretcher leg was attached to the door panel then its in the post.
Mitch

Thanks Mitch , problem solved . Nice conversion of the medical Kubel I must say

I ordered the winter version as well, together with the 6st SS gebirgsjäger. Started working and gathering material for a dio set in the Low French Vosges mountains during operation Nordwind ,when the 6th was opposed to the 45th US infantry div.

Awsome can't wait to see your pics, look forward to them :salute::

I am trying to decide which 253 to get. I see a lot of grey ones and of course the winter.

Can anyone verify the Camo Normandy version ?

What are you trying to verify. The colors themselves or usage in Normandy?

I think he is trying to find if this variant was in normandy and in tri camo colours. I have one pic from my own collection of pics with Witt and meyer and other officers before witt died next to one of the TG variants in the Normandy area just prior to the invasion. You can see there is camo on but, not what unit. I would have thought though, being with these guys its fair to narrow it down. Not like it would be Heer in an SS con.

Not sure I recal reading that they were officially used by HJ but, at that stage many AFV's were used that you would not have still expected to see at that stage of the war.

I remember someone saying that Panzer I and Panzer II were not at the battles of Kharkov and kursk but, plenty of pics show this is true.

I would think for the western battlefields these will be acceptable

I'm not so sure about the Sd.Kfz.253 in the three color camo. I'm not saying some didn't survive several years to be repainted, just that the numbers produced (285) and the when it was produced (March 1940 - June 1941) plus all the photographs I've seen all point to grey.

Here is one with factory new paint prior to the application of tactical symbols.

The Collectors Showcase Sd.Kfz.232 in three color camo is a tad suspect to me as well with older features such as the Zusatzpanzer (discontinued 1942) and the frame antenna (replaced by the star antenna).

I've studied this subject long enough to never say never and there is always the possibility of vehicles surviving several years and being repainted. It 's just more reassuring if there is less speculation and more evidence.

Usage in Normandy and in the color TGM did.

I am surprised he didnt do a grey one there seems to be plenty of them.

In 1944 new camo colours were introduced, new olive green ( ral 6003) and new red brown (ral 8012)The new olive green was often used as a primer colour on many vehicles as from Nov 1944 onwards. In the last months of the war ( last year)dark grey was also used on a number of vehicles both as a primer and as a camo colour. It should be noted that older paints were almost always used until supplies were exhausted (because of shortages of paint), so many older vehicles carried new paint while newer vehicles often appeared in older colours

Guy ..... Frank.....Mitch

In the Figarti section we are also discussing modeling and accuracy etc. with excellent info ...... I thank you for your research assistance, and I respect your knowledge.
I am surprised Tom did not do a grey. I saw somethere that the manufacturers are afraid of grey, because it is not sexy enough.

Sometimes I don't think the manufacturers are in tune with us, they are too worried about sales and ignore our requests.

I am going to buy a Normandy and repaint it grey and a Winter as is.

Thanks Again men
Alex
