Sequel to "An Army at Dawn" (1 Viewer)

I’m very interested in picking up all three titles once the final book is released. I’ve read books on the period from other authors, I’m wondering if anyone could comment on Atkinson’s writing style.

Some historians can get to mired in the minutia which can break up the flow of the narrative. Others are very adept at integrating their facts with the story. I’m curious as to where some of you think Atkinson fits as far as style.

Shane, the Atkinson books are a fast read. Good operational level description with details down to the individual participant views. You can get a good look at excerpts in the link I posted earlier.

I finally got around to finishing "An Army At Dawn", then went right through "Day of Battle". Very well written and interesting books. My only complaint is that Atkinson does seem to love the language and uses odd or obscure terms that seem to be there to make the books more "literary". He presents a lot of fascinating material about the leaders and the "big picture" of how the campaigns fit into the overall war effort.

Almost finished and a great read. I just read the part about the Camp Hamleburg raid, insisted on staging by Gen Patton to free his son-in-law Lt Col John Watters. Turned out to be a bloody debacle and Patton lied about knowing Watters being there. The raid was commanded by 23 yr old 4th Armor Division Capt Abe Baum. Looked him up and he passed away in March 2013, awarded DSC, Silver Star, 2 Bronze stars and multiple Purple Hearts. He was 91 at time of death and interred at Arlington Nat'l Cemetary. RIP an American hero. Chris
