Sets I would like to see (1 Viewer)

I just found out that Trophy produced an open road Landau set for Prince Charles and Lady Diana's wedding. Apparently Len thought the couple would use the Royal State Coach which he had produced in his Pagentry Series. However, he found out about two weeks before the wedding that the Landau would be used. He rushed up production and produced a very few sets. The production costs were not favorable so he didn't produced anymore. I have never seen one nor did I know Len even produced such a set. Something to look out for at a show!

Hello Tommy,
I posted pictures of this set in the Forum in a while ago. Nobody seems paid attention to my post at that time. ....I also find a reference to it in one of old Trophy dealers catalogs.
The carriage and horses were actually "borrowed" by Trophy from Marlborough. I have only seen 2 sets: one I got and another one is in "negotiation" stage. The pictures are enclosed.
I doubt you can find them at the show. This piece is extremely fragile. I know only about two sets ever shipped to the US. You probably have better chances finding them in the UK.
Al

Thanks Al. If anyone could find such a set, much less two, it would have to be you. I can understand how that much detail would bog down Len's production.

Thank you, Tommy
This is a clip from a catalog.

Now there is a Diana related set Len told me all about that is ULTRA RARE and only 2 in existence The Diana and Prince of Wales Chess set.

Good luck tracking that one down, again not my cup of tea...thankfully :tongue:

I know where one is, but well out of reach ^&grin

Cheers

Well, too bad , Martyn... I would need one: I am an excellent chess player, seriously ^&grin. I doubt that even one of these sets made its way across the pond... I would be nice at least see its picture.
Sometimes impossible (with help of the friends) becomes possible... I have seen it many times.:)

I've never seen it Al.

I do know one set ended up your side of the pond in very famous hands:wink2:

Not my cup of tea either - that piece by Len of the gruesome two-some!

I would think, however, it would be relatively easy to make up a very good look-alike of it, using existing castings - and a bit of milliput and paint - if anyone wanted to do it. (NOT me though - I hasten to add). johnnybach

Hehehe, go on jb, though come to think of it I much prefer your Highlanders, Beer Wagon, Knights and Stagecoach. :salute:::salute:::salute::

A chess set of Cowboys, Indians and 7th Cavalry, now you're talking {bravo}}

Cheers

Len told me that Trophy made a four camel set(no bases) for Egypt and Sudan. Camel no. 1 carried the gun; no.2 the wheels; and nos. 3 & 4 the ammo boxes. Accompanied by four naval brigade handlers wearing Sennet hats with tan bases. I didn't know this set existed. Anyone have this set or a photo you can post? Thanks. Tommy

That sounds like one of Lens specials, a variation of set# SEQ 3 - CAMEL SCREW GUN BATTERY, the first version. This was followed by set# EQ58 - MOUNTED SCREW GUN SECTION and last, but by no means least, set# DEQ58 - MOUNTED SCREW GUN SECTION R.A.

Yes I have this set and will try to post photos next week.

Looking forward to the pictures:salute::
