The first two episodes were excellent. The language situation is a bit confusing but more historically accurate. It's cumbersome having some speaking in Japanese and others speaking in English while it is supposedly Portuguese being translated into Japanese.

Enjoying the series. Someone posted an article asking why there are no black actors in the show. :rolleyes2: Of course one of the Viking series did have a black queen as I recall.

I have only seen the first one, so better do some binge watching this weekend ???

SPOILER ALERT, going to discuss the ending.

Disappointed in the series finale. Mostly due to the lack of a climatic battle, which I believe we were led to expect. Secondly, no explanation of how Blackthorne made it back to England and his later yrs, just a quick glimpse. And BTW, a few dozen people pulling on ropes would never have pulled the wrecked ship out of the water (and who would have crewed the ship if repaired?).

In the original series there was no climactic battle there either; you just imagine it. This follows the book, as I recall. Both in the book and the original series he never makes it back to England. I think he was imagining that he did. Toronaga says in both series that he will never leave Japan.

As I’m sure you know Toronaga was Tokugawa Ieyasu, whose shogunate ruled from 1603 until the Meiji Restoration in 1868.

I've been watching the series each week and love it.
The original 80s series was excellent as well.
