Thanks for the links, Scott! I just found another article that suggests it's a basking shark, too.

Yeah, Quint's monologue is one of my favorite all-time scenes, and probably the best of the whole movie, too. I like how the whole evening scene about the Orca builds, with Hooper and Quint bonding over their scars and shark stories, and how Brody looks at his own appendix scar but then thinks better of it, and then Hooper triggers the story. It's put together so well.

The incredible thing is that some of those attacks were not off the coast but deep up river.There are dangerous species that can go deep up river (bull shark for instance, once found upstream near the Andes in the Amazon river {eek3}) and even some at the Nicaragua Lake... Take care and ... sleep well...^&grin

On Jaws, to me the best scene is the first one, the initial attack, talk about suspense and terror, this is a master scene, one of the best ever. And the music does its part too, oh yes it does... A movie for the ages in my view.

Yes, I see what you mean^&grin, but then again, it's not the same as the sea is it...^&grin Just ask the surfers, they know the danger (lower than getting hit by a car I guess...) but keep going back, even after bitten!
