A deliberate play on the Clash song of the early 1980's but this relates to getting a complete set on not.

K&C released their Crusader range in around 2006. I was instantly hooked and bought all the early stuff and the JG Miniatures ancient city walls. Even my dad said this looked spectacular when set up (and he is not a TS fan). I have continued collecting this range and tend to surf ahead of deletions and have everything up until and including number 96. I also have a fair amount of First Legion and Del Prado Crusaders and Saracens.

So in all I have around 160 or so figures. Its enough for a great display.

With so much else to collect do you push on and make sure you keep up to date with the complete set? Or do you say enough is enough and get figures from other conflicts? I did collect all the early WB Zulu war figures and dio pieces but stopped (apart from the odd piece) a couple of years ago. I did the same with WB ACW having got every item (including club and specials) since 1998 until around 2011 when I had so much I only got the odd interesting items. The same for Redcoates gloss range - I felt a couple of years ago I should stop.

I wonder if fellow collectors have similar dilemmas and what their resolution was.Bearing in mind funds for our hobby are normally not unlimited - even if we do push the boundaries sometimes!

Once you have enough you have enough
The series will continue because new collectors might want to start a series and so certain sets and figures will be revisited
But if you have been at it a long time you may well think twice unless it is something really unique and interesting
Anyway nice photos and thanks for posting.

It's impossible -- cost and space -- to have it all nor desirable as with constant purchases, you lose the wonder, excitement and expectation of getting a new purchase.

After years of doing it both ways, less is more.

I've tried it both ways too. Less is more.

And if you are asking the question, you have already answered it.

Howdy Gary,

... well first to qualify my answer, I have whittled my collecting breadth down to 3-4 ranges, with AWI, 1812, Indians and Pacific WWII as my interests. I also keep to only 4 vendors for these ranges.

So, my decision is easier than yours, as the pictures you show here portray a fantastic collection in many time periods AND span many Vendors! AND a joy to look at! {sm4}

BUT ...I like to "keep going" with my ranges as new figures and poses are released, since they preset an opportunity for an entirely new setup or diorama and a new way to look at my collection. For example, if I have 300 fighting /marching poses and out comes some camp life figures or engineers building something, wounded or whatever, then that opens up a whole set of possibilities.

The decision to stop collecting many ranges or eras was hard. And even today I give a little sigh abut not continuing some or taking up others. The main culprit is $$$$ followed closely by space (as is the case with 90% of folks here I would reckon!)

I wavered a few years ago with the exact same emotion and "STOPPED" my AWI for a while, but then got remorse when the K&C marching Fusiliers came out and had to "CATCH UP" ... which meant hunting up Retired items at higher prices .. <SIGH> {sm2}.

Tough one but a nice problem to have to have. Look forward to seeing more of your incredible collection.

As you know, variety is the spice of life mate and lets face it as collectors we have a lot of options to choose from now-a-days.

It's clear, you're a bit torn, but go with what your gut tells ya and what you can afford.

I often find appreciating what you have, can help with any future decision making.......if that makes any sense.

Just my 5 cents worth.

Cheers.

Is that taking into account the Exchange rate and the Cost of inflation?
In any case GOOD advise!! :salute::

^&grin......actually good point Larry, lets put a zero in there mate and say my 50 cents worth.:salute::

My toughest decision is always which diorama to take down to make way for a new setup or period piece. Some dioramas took a lot of time and expense to set up or build and become centerpieces to a collection. Floor or shelf space becomes an issue. Another issue is climate controlled storage space for the boxes of displayed items, and non-displayed items. Unfortunately now, this has put brakes on purchases, or at least spread acquisitions over a longer period of time.
