I have started a Diorama of the Siege of Alesia.I hope to finish it in a few weeks when I find time.I have to build the Roman fortifications, add some scenery and cover up the bases of the figures.I also have to get a few more of the Gauls.I have added some of my Germans after all they were all considered Barbarians by the Romans and I figured they would fit in.The battle takes place between the Gates of Alesia and the soon to be Roman Fortifications.001.JPG024.JPG041.JPG042.JPG043.JPG

Excellent work my friend. The wall looks fantastic!!! I have actually tossed the same idea around as well but was thinking of having the relief force attacking the Roman fortifications.

There are some wonderful painted figures here which look great together in your dio! ^&cool

Great work! I really like the Alesian wall. Your entire scene looks great. I'm looking forward to seeing the Roman fortifications go up.

Thanks for the complements guys, its a fun project to work on.Now that the weather is turning cold I will be indoors to finish this project.Have to build the Roman Fortifications next and pick up a few more Gauls. Also wishing, as is Sahara, for the Caesar figure to be under the tree this Christmas season. Also wishing for news when the Persians and Alexander will come out for the Greek line.

Very nice work you did, Joe.
As others, I am looking forward to see the scene grow.
You have some great plans.
Cheers!

Hey Joe I finally picked up the last Roman that I needed to complete the 10th legion figures and 8 of the Gauls. I must say the figure I thought I would be the least impressed by has turned out to be my favorite. The picture of the druid on the FL site really did not do it any justice. When I took him out of the box I was more then pleased to say the least. If you haven't already I would suggest picking this fella up. Here is a quick pic of the figure.

Joe, what kind of matt did you use for a ground cover? I like it a lot.

Sahara, great figure and photography.

I used static grass similar what Matt uses on the base of his FL figures and for the dirt some real fine sand that I sifted to get that powdered fine look so it wouldn't look to grainy but also added some of the regular sand to give that small rock look.I wanted to make the ground cover to look and blend in as close to the base of FL figures as I could in case I don't cover them up.I'm glad you like it,Thanks

Joe[Sahara],nice figure,I will have to put it on my list.I was on the bubble with that figure, but that great work you did with that picture put me over the top.Your set up with that backdrop and blending it in with your diorama is awesome. That picture alone will sell some of those figures.Great work!!!!

Joe,
That is a fantastic shot of the FL druid. The druid was already high on my list but has now moved closer to the very top. I can almost feel the wind blowing as it whips through the tall grass. The hut is incredibly realistic. The depth your backdrop provides makes your composition come to life. The dead tree adds a creepy element that is perfect for the atmosphere the druid elicits. Thanks for sharing

Joe

Awesome display and great collection. That druid shot is outstanding.

Finally finished up the Roman fortifications for now.Have to take a break for a while, have to put up the Christmas decorations and watch some Football and Hockey this weekend.I just set it on the grass mat to take some photos. Will probably put it on 2' by 2' platform and then attach it to the Alesia platform also adding a ditch with spikes in it in front of the gate and dirt walls.I used some of the FL imperial Romans,Aeroart Romans, and Conte archers, also Conte Romans climbing the the ladders from my Conte Galley .The scorpion is Conte and the catapult is CS.Hopefully Matt will dabble into Roman siege engines and archers.Hope everyone had a Great Thanksgiving. Here are some pics005.JPG006.JPG008.JPG010.JPG013.JPG

Very nice. Having grown up around the Roman wall I am surprised I am not interested in collecting this period but, like seeing roman displays

Hi Joe,
Looks GREAT :salute:::salute:::salute::. Thanks for sharing . regards Gebhard

Finally getting chance to finish up my Siege of Alesia Diorama, just have to add some more scenery.Built it in 2 parts,The Alesia gate and battle field as one section and the Roman Fortifications as the other section.I then put the double ditch to separate the sections.I figured that in the future if I wanted to put a Celt village in front of the Roman Fort. I would use a singe ditch that surrounded the Roman fortification that was in the movie "The Eagle" I would use my FL Imperial Romans and attack the village with the Testudo.010.JPG 017.JPG 004.JPG 007.JPG 022.JPG
