Probably would have been Palms being the desert. Interesting bit about the grant and lee not, having much interest in the ugly duckling I did not know that was the difference
Mitch

The ugly duckling was the Matilda, named after the cartoon Duck;)

Cheers Rob...

Just meant that I thought the design was ugly as a battle tank had forgot about the matilda when I stated the comment.

Just kidding Mitch, actually I don't think the Matilda is an ugly Tank really, especially in that sky blue camo. The Grant looks good in this camo scheme, looking forward to adding her to my North Africa armoured div:cool:

The British Grant had a cast turret with a bustle at the rear for the radio, thicker armour and a crew of 6. The American Lee had a MG cupola on the turret, radio in the hull, thinner armour and a 7 man crew. The armour on the Lee was soon upgraded and one crew position was eliminated.

The Lee tank was sent to Russia as part of the lend/lease arrangement, which is why the Russians called them "coffins for seven brothers".................

I have some great pics of these and Churchills at Kursk which, is strange and not what you expect to see on the plains of russia.

Rob mate,
I am up for three to enhance my EA Tank collection. Just love the Western Desert stuff both AK and EA.
Could we maybe see some Aussies at Tobruk in the new year.:):):)
Cheers Howard

Howard,

Aren't you up to about four or five Matildas? I remember posting a couple of shots for you earlier this year.

Regards,
