Simple/CheapTo Make...Timber Fence Section

I saw this piece on Ebay months ago...I think it's K&C...but I might be wrong...I kind of remember the piece was advertised as "retired" too...and I'm pretty sure it sold for around $125...but I might be wrong on that too...

anyway...instead of chasing it...I decided to make my own version...

this is a really simple project if anybody finds it acceptable in detail or quality...using mostly scraps from the yard...

I cut a 19"x2" wooden strip for the base (rounded off on the edges) out of 1/8" paneling...then painted the bottom black

I hot glued some 1/2" blue board foam to it...then rasped it down so it had no overlap on the edges...

then hot glued the tree twigs into place...then white glued some dirt in the gaps to represent mud...

then put on groundwork and sprayed the heck out of it with a solution of 50% water and 50% white glue...

it's super sturdy...easy to make, really nicely detailed...because you're using products made by Mother Nature herself...and fun to make...plus...it's suitable for any era...

Looks great Mike - and also environmentally friendly-ish and has a low carbon footprint ( stuff found in back-yard)A taller version might make a good "Fort Apache". Hmmmm. where's the glue? jb

Nice job. The sections in the first photo are K & C.

New here (hi all). Only "criticism" is that smaller timber would have been my choice. Overall though. I would say that your scratch build timber fence looks far, far better than the $125 pre-fab.

Mike,
You have really gotten good at this stuff.great job.

thanks for the views and comments...

these are all "hot glued" through the foam onto their wooden bases...the groundwork covers all the glue...they are extremely sturdy...

I have made 4 more sections since I built the first on...I have narrowed the base considerably to make them much thinner...the one in the back row showing the bases painted black gives a good illustration how wide the original was...I prefer the thinner...more narrow style instead...I'm learning...

I also made a more "primitive" style one...the front row...with the timbers pointing upwards...more of a "battle defense" than a fence section...

these are fun and easy to make...they look really good on my shelf too...

here's a few more pics...the designs are pretty timeless...so they are good for almost any era...fences like these have existed for decades and still do...

Your scratch built versions look killer, really impressive stuff. I may have to give this a try with all of the wood that was blown down in last night's "near tornado"...cheers!:)
