So long, Crapgame! (1 Viewer)

His appearances on Johnny Carson were always a highlite, always hysterical. No one was immune from his verbal assaults. Anyone remember his short-lived sitcom, CPO Sharkey? It has some funny moments. RIP, Don. -- Al

Yes!! I don't meet too many folks who do remember it.

Yes, certainly the end of an era. Too many people are too quick to take offense anymore, for Rickles' style ever to be acceptable again, in the broader society.

A customer in the shop (we do get those once in awhile) just exclaimed this while I was in the warehouse picking the items he wanted to see!
Too funny that you posted that on here already.

Man what a bummer, he's by far my all time favorite.

His routine during the Reagan inauguration back in 1985 is beyond hysterical.

He was one in a million, he broke the mold forever, his rants on those Dean Martin roasts were incredible.

RIP Don.......................

He was hysterical! I especially loved watching him on the Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts as a kid, he was brutally funny! But while he will be missed, he made it to 90, and had a heckuva good ride! RIP Don!!

saw him in Vegas years ago...he picked a portly guy out of the audience with a really attractive female companion and rode him unmercifully...bumped into the guy in the casino the next night and told him that was brutal but funny...he said either Rickles...or the hotel comped his room for being such a good sport...

I think that he may have been a long time friend of Don Adams. He guest starred on 'Get Smart' ... the only thing Mel Brooks ever did other than Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein that I laughed at.

He was great in those "roasts" Louis mentioned. I particularly remember the one he did for Frank Sinatra. He was close friends to Bob Newhart and wife. Kelly's Heroes, and his role, is one of my all time favorites.

I also remember CPO Sharkey. Does anyone remember he had a guest appearance on Hennessey? A weekly sitcom of a navy doc. Rickles had a guest role as a CPO. Maybe this created the idea for his later show.

Rickles to live Vegas show guest: "Where are you from sir?"

Answer: "Japan"

Rickles: "I spent 3 yrs in the jungle looking for your father."

He was a Navy veteran, too, served on a PT boat tender in WWII. I figure that his experiences there played into a lot of "CPO Sharkey".

He was good in a serious role, too. It wasn't a large part, but I think he did well as Billy Sherbert, the casino manager, in "Casino". He was also appeared in a great episode of "Tales From the Crypt", as a ventriloquist with problem he couldn't easily solve. "I'm splittin' up the act!"

Prost!
Brad

YouTube has many of his great appearances and roast segments. Watched a few today from the Dean Martin / Sinatra era and some great line ups of the top stars of those days (Reagan, Orsen Welles, Jimmy Stewart, Bob Hope, Sammy Davies, Angie Dickinson etc). As he often said he insulted all people equally.

Found Rickles in a roast of Sinatra which was good and also had an appearance by Peter Falk as Lt Columbo.

Gents, from Kelly's Heroes

Crapgame: How are things going with the bank?

Big Joe: [A distant explosion is heard as the Tiger fires; Big Joe shakes his head.] Nothin'. The Sherman's broken down and nobody's gonna get that Tiger out of the square.

Crapgame: Make a deal with 'im.

Big Joe: What kind of a deal?

Crapgame: A deal deal! Maybe the guy's a Republican! Business is business, right?

Big Joe: Okay, big mouth.

RIP Don,

John from Texas
