Not a real soccer fan as I only follow World Cup play but I sure hope any of you real soccer fans got to see the final today. It was a superb game, taken over by the two superstars, the Frenchman Mbappe, who scored 3 goals, and the Argentinian Messe, who scored 2 goals. Anyway, congrats to Messe and the Argentine team on the win and congrats to the French on a spirited, never give up rally that sent the game to extra time and then the penalty kick phase. -- Al

I’ve been watching football since 1966 and it was the greatest final I’ve ever seen.

Sorry Brad it's got to be the 1966 Final for me "They think it's all over, it is now" {bravo}}{bravo}}{bravo}}Merry Christmas

Certainly the most compelling match I've seen and the performances of Messe and Mbappe were just incredible. Loved how the French kept coming back and wouldn't fold. Had a good time watching the whole WC, in fact. Sorry it's over. -- Al

Sorry Martyn, but not quite.

From Alan Shearer:

”The biggest match on the greatest stage served up the best World Cup final of all time and I’m still coming to terms with being there and bearing witness…. This, given the stakes, was probably the greatest’s game greatest game.”

The one thing the Dutch-Argentina match taught us in this Cup is that a two goal lead is never safe and things can change in the blink of an eye, from Argentina being in control to hanging on for dear life, from France being in control to then it, too, hanging on for dear life.

If that match doesn’t bring on new fans, nothing ever will. Even my son, who is not the biggest fan, had a few friends over to watch the match. It was the two best teams, with the two best players in the world, playing each other, Europe vs America, and that’s the way it should be.

Bring on 2026!

I love soccer, continuous action, no 5,000 TV time outs.............the only part I don't like it overtime; it should be sudden death, whoever scores first wins, it's lousy that it gets decided on penatly kicks.

First goal in extra time wins; if that was the case, the French would have won.

It has been a good World Cup for football fans - not sure what this “soccer” is?? :)

Great games, shocking results in the group stages - Saudi Arabia beating Argentina, Tunisia beating France, Japan turning over both Germany and Spain and Morocco beating Belgium and going on to the semi-finals.

Good times for TV in the UK with the games on at 1500 or 1900hrs and putting to one side the clear FIFA corruption that took the tournament to Qatar and the morality of Qatar hosting it was a great 4 weeks of football.......just a bit of getting used to that it wasn’t in summertime.

Roll on 2026 and USA/Canada/Mexico hosting. It might be England’s year :) but I’ve been thinking that since Spain 1982......

I usually watch some of the World Cup games but didn't bother watching any this year, not even when Australia played. Not sure why, maybe because there's more online tv options available now.

In Australia Soccer is a popular School sport for those that aren't into contact styles of Football such as Rugby League. Then it seems to fall by the wayside in adulthood. I mainly work with construction workers, labourers, truck drivers etc, never heard/had any discussions about the World Cup this year.

Soccer GOAT Pele has passed away. His was the only name I associated with soccer for many years back in the day. RIP. -- Al

One of the greats. I was blessed to see him play live and on tv. His performance at the 1970 WC is the stuff of legends.

Great human, great representative of his sport and one of the greatest ever.

I fear that we will never see his equivalent.
