Some early Trophy AZW figures (1 Viewer)

Hi Martyn,

Very nice set on eBay;).

I just wonder if the box goes with the figures.

Your expert opinion would be appreciated.

Cheers, Raymond:).

Raymond,
Most likely... I know David Haskell from a couple years ago and he and his wife are top-notch people! I would not hesitate to buy anything from them.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the note.

I have bought quite a figures from David Hazell of late, so I absolutely concur with you that he is top rate.

It just that I have never seen Trophy figures with tea coloured pith helmets come in this newer version box.

Nuff' said on this. o:eek::.

I think Brian may be interested in the set as an add on to his field kitchen.

Raymond.

Hi Guys

I'm not 100% sure it is a set, that is why I stated " Some very nice early Trophy figures ". The figure of the Zulu female is definitely part of the Field Kitchen set EQ31.

Regarding Tan and White helmets , Len Taylor of Trophy gave people who purchased sets the option of Tan or White up until at least January 1998, there is a request printed in the front of the Trophy catalogue “ NOTE: Please indicate white or dyed helmets”

Cheers

Martyn:)

Gentlemen,
Just so we are on the same page, here is the photo. They are all old style bases as well, which I've seen in these type boxes. Brian, Martyn and myself have the field kitchen(probably others as well) TD2 and the native servant girl is in that set, as well as the quintessential sitting canteen-drinker. What is the significance of the A at the end of TD2A?

Hi Mike

I believe the A at the end of the set number signifies a set change as in TD1 and TD1A, these two sets are both BATTLE STRATEGY but have completely different figures.I could be wrong as I think A was used on sets where there was a simple change such as bases.

Does anyone know what sets TD5, TD6, TD7, TD8 and TD9 contained?

Well spotted with the bases, this should show that these figures do not go with this box, very nice figures all said and done.

Good luck to anyone bidding in the auction but I would not be saying that if an "Abandon the Hospital" set came up for sale:D:p

Cheers

Martyn:)

Martyn,
I've started looking and am having trouble identifying any of them, if they did exist. Lt ans Staff Officers: HELP!!!
Will keep looking

I do not know the answer, but I think Len Taylor was quite happy to customize sets if requested and some of the big dealers were quite happy to break sets up if asked. The Zulu women with the jar on her head is from the Field Kitchen set as is the chap sitting down drinking..

Trophy catalogue 1997
TD1A Battle strategy
TD3A Patrol Under Attack
TD4A Incident at Islandwana
TD 10A Tropies of War

So nothing about the missing TD sets.
The Field Kitchen EQ31 Cook recovering loaf of bread
Cook with meat and cleaver
Sgt reprimanding soldier
Seated soldier drinking "tea" being reprimanded
Zulu maiden with calabash balanced on head.

Well I posed this question to the seller.

Hello,

A few of my friends are having a discussion about this set. Can your confirm that all of these figures were issued as a set, as some of the figures were also in other sets and we are not 100% sure. Also do you have any idea what the A stands for at the end of a set number.

Many thanks for your help.

Scott

This was the answer received.

Hello Scott,
I'll answer the easy bit first. The "A" suffix indicates that it is a revised version of the original set. The Trophy catalogue is littered with these. Sometimes a master or mould was damaged and sometimes worn out. Any remodelling or remaking of a figure or figures resulted in the suffix. Also when a set was finally discontinued the figures remaining were sometimes used in other sets.
As to the originality of the set I can only say that the box has a handwritten Trophy end-label and the writing I recognize from many years of selling trophy sets. The cutouts in the foam appear to relate to the set as presented. The box and foams are wholly original. You will be aware that sets TD1A and TD3A still appeared in the last Trophy catalogue so it's pretty safe to assume that set TD2 - TD2A existed at some time.
I am convinced that this is an original set. I have called it "The Encampment" in the ebay title based on a half-memory of this set from the past. More than this I cannot tell you.
With best wishes,
David.

Thanks for asking the question Scott.

The chap polishing his boots and the one with his tunic unbuttoned drinking from his mug are rare and worth the money alone;)

Cheers

Martyn:)

Scott,
Thanks for asking David. He really is a good fellow and I believe he was involved with Trophy as a dealer in the early 2000's. I'll have to ask him...maybe hit him up(again) for a print catalogue(which I still am looking for).
The figure standing with tunic unbuttoned is also in the Sudan Series Water cart.
