Some K&C news from Hong Kong (1 Viewer)

No, no, wait, I know, it's going to be a line of famous King & Country collectors.

OK, I will guess that he is on a Sci-Fi kick and we will see Star Gate SG1 team battling all the Jaffa, and Goa'uld System Lords! Imagine all the characters that K&C could create. Of course, following up with the Stargate Atlantis team and all those bizarre creatures!

Ok, OK... I know, get a life!

Great idea, I love it.

I don't know about the Sci Fi ideas, I reckon there could be some licensing issues there.

I think it will be something based around the Colonial days of the British Empire. It's not my era but I know there are plenty of Zulu sets around, but has anyone done a line based on the colonial wars in India, Afghanistan etc

I think Trophy or Frontline did some Sikh War (1840's) figures, Tradition, K&C and others have done some 2nd Afghan War figures, the Indian Mutiny of the 1850's has been done by Britains most recently, but I am not sure about the 1st Afghan War. Britains has also done some NWF active units in their old Delhi Durbar range. I was really hoping to see something in this area, but if it is truly something never done before, then I am not too hopeful at this point.

One other thought would be something very specific like the storming of the Dargai heights by the Gordon Highlanders and Gurkhas during the NWF uprising in the late 1890's, though again this seems like a bit of a reach. There are numerous famous paintings of this incident which brought fame to piper Geo. Findlater of the Gordons who continued to play despite being injured in both legs during the action.

Never done before by any manufacturer. That does not leave much if you consider the long history of toy soldiers. I am intrigued.

Another way of looking at it , is that anything post vietnam (except Iraq/afganistan) might be on the cards, as i figure everything else has been done, my own punt , would be english civil war Round heads vs cavaliers, but no doubt thats also be done:)
post vietnam there's...middle east..israeli-arab war, somalia-black hawk down, central america, falklands!, russian afghanistan invasion, yugoslavia,:)

Britains made a few roundheads and cavaliers in plastic. They command high prices on ebay. I don't think the battle of hastings as been done.

Grenada Studio did some Normans for the Battle of Hastings, but I do not think he meant the Russians when he was referring to toy soldiers manufacturers. So that is a possibility, but period wise, they will be very close to the Crusaders.

Some potential possibilities (that have not been done before) :

1. Popes - great hats.
2. Roman Emperors - Good reason to make more Roman soldiers.
3. Baseball/Football figures - hopefully not.
4. Formula 1, Rally, Vintage race car drivers - to go with the large 1/32 slotcar market ( I have at least 75 1/32 scale slot cars ).
5. Biblical Theme - Joseph/Moses era will tie in with the Egypt series, all the way through to the 12 Apostles - Will tie in with the Roman series and be a good excuse to give us Roman Soldiers from the beginnings of Roman expansion to the final decline. Can capture the Jewish / Christian / Religious Markets and reduce potential heat off of the WWII Germans.

Gentle Friends,

I am almost at a total loss to know what has not been done previously by toy soldier manufacturers. However, I cannot remember any maker doing a line concerning the adventures and travels of Marco Polo. Is anyone aware of such a line?

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

I guessing its going to be figures of all the forum members. :)

That is a very cool suggestion, and could be an extension of the idea behind his "Silk Road" series.

Wow, Pat,
that is one cool suggestion, the journeys of Marco Polo.
Very good!

I'd be a very happy bunny with any modern era lines, but I suspect that that might be wishful thinking. Falklands or Somalia would be my preferred.
Or if we're talking sci fi, Colonial Marines! :)

That is a very good and interesting suggestion, Pat. That sort of historical set was the kind of thing Heyde had in their catalog, but I think you're right, I don't think anyone has ever done figures of Marco Polo.

Prost!

Pat

Was it done in matte ?

Anyway - It would be a very cool conflict to have a range

I thought with the special "dealer" figure being made for ToySoldiers Paris - there might be hope. :D

Imho I can't see that a Marco Polo range is likely to have much commercial success.

What about the bods of Baywatch? Surely that would sell, 'cause of the great drama and acting of course;)! When the new line is announced half the forum will say OH YEA, of course and the other half will of course come out the woodwork and claim to have known all along:D.
