Some of my painted soldiers! (1 Viewer)

Scott,

I am sure I am just being nitpicky. I am applying the glosscoate tonight on a 146th Massachusetts Zouave that i just finished, so we will see the effects tomorrow!

I will do you one better, I will do up a little tutorial and post it about the washes I use. Photos and all. It's easier to show and explain than just to type it all out. =) (look for that posted on Thurs or Fri)

Jeff,

Thank you! I wanted to keep them a little realistic and a little "Hollywood", so that seemed like a good compromise.

Really good looking figs. trying to paint Dragon german ww2 figures but have some ways to go before anything presentable, but having fun. is there a finish that can be applied to matte figures once they're done? Southwest on 84.

I use a matte spray, two or three coats after I finish to give them a nice matte seal to them. You can do the same with a gloss spray as well. Some people gloss then matte, though I never saw the logic in that.

Hi Adam - nice to see another painter joining the ranks. Nice too - to see another style around. We all have our favourite way of painting - and it will be good to see how you approach it too.

I do agree that our hobby is mainly visual (and tactile) - and the best way of describing what we do - is to post pictures! - so will look forward to seeing many more. I happen to like my soldiers glossy - but also appreciate the artistry of others who choose to finish their guys off in another way. Doesn't make you a bad person - so don't worry about whatever finish YOU like. Matte is okay too.

See ya. johnnybach

Nice to meet you! I agree wholeheartedly. I think spice is the variety of life, and the different styles can only make it more visually interesting.

I gave my first gloss figure a go tonight. I started a new thread about it. I made some mistakes, but I want to see what kind of advice people can offer on what I could be doing wrong.

Be well!

Hi Adam. Just looking through your photos and really like the looks of your painted figures. Its clear you've been at this for a while. Style is very cool looking. Agree with the others that it's nice to see another painter around. If you didn't already guess, Jeff is really fond of green. :rolleyes2:

Thanks MD! Thanks for the compliments, I appreciate it. I have been painting awhile, but only started with toy soldier scale (around 54mm) within the past year. I am really enjoying it.

I have to play catch up this week, the power was out due to the storm and I am behind in my painting. I should be able to post some more pics soon. Thanks!

Thanks Adam for showing your painting skills. I enjoy viewing your work and like the others said it is nice to have another figure painter posting. Welcome to the forum. John

Chasbo, I use a spray matte sealer. There are many kinds, I find the ones in the art stores do the best job. I had a long time painter tell me Aquanet hair spray, (in the pink can) was the best sealer for miniatures, but I haven't tested it.

Here are the Grenadiers I am working on, pretty much finished except for the canteen straps. I have been pretty busy with working on these and other commissions, but should be back to regular postings up soon.

What do you think?

Here are those brits all finished up, pics courtesy of Ken at All the Kings Men. I think they came out smart! I was in the hospital for a bit, but am out and on the mend. Hopefully will have some more pics to post up this week.

I made a trip to the Hobby Bunker in Boston recently, so I have some good stuff to put paint on.

Thanks Mitch, I hope to have some new stuff to show soon.

On a different note, does anyone know of any company that makes Maori that are suitable for painting in 54mm scale?

Nice work Adam.

Wilson Edward have a 54mm Maori Warrior in traditional warrior dress listed in the catalog, however it is not released yet.

You could contact Craig, he is a member of this forum.

His website is a good read too-
