Sorry if the polls don't work out, this is my first time using that tool...

Sorry, thought you could post multiple polls... will make another thred for brand loyalty, matt v. gloss later.

Not sure what you're expecting out of this as scale tends to be quite a debated issue.

I look forward to the contributions to this and, can see where your poll results will go with the questions posed. I look forward to the brand loyalty poll which, I think will be very interesting indeed
Mitch

Can't really see the point of polls. They do spark debate, but that usually degenerates into a slanging match and the moderators have to step in. They certainly won't affect the manufacturers or the way people collect so it seems a rather pointless exercise.

The point is not to spark debate but instead to see what the actual general trend is, as opposed to who can "make the most noise". So no heated comments please, and this is just an interesting statistic. I always like to know about others collections, for example, those of you who are WBritain club members will be familiar with the polls they do. I always enjoy those. Again, NOT meant to spark any debate:eek:

As I have stated before... the height of the figure is not that critical... the scale of the equipment they are wearing and the weapons they are carrying is.

I agree 100000%:) But I also think there is a certain margin of error, which is why I am under the middle option in the poll. Since figure hight does not matter to me, and I figure that equipment is more or less the same, I am fine with the "official" scale difference.

I'm not really sure what your asking , I collect figures of many sizes from Flats to 120mm figures and 200mm bust . No matter what the scale of the figure as long as its done well , I would consider it for my collection . If I'm creating a Battle display I prefer for the figures to be of the same scale otherwise they are all displayed together by period . Happy Collecting Gebhard

Let us say when you are doing a battle display, to what degree to you want your figures to be the same scale? Would half an inch make a difference? Do you measure very precisely each figure?

I have never felt the need to measure a figure . I go by what looks good to my eye but half and inch would be very noticeable to me and IMO would not look good displayed together . I would also take into consideration the unit being portrayed as several elite units had height requirements so if done right figures from certain units should be taller . Since being a member of this forum I have learned that everyone has differing opinions and levels of tolerance as to what looks good together and not everyone is as picky as I am  Happy Collecting Gebhard

I agree in part but the scale of the body, face and hands I think is equally important. Figures just don't look right together when those are significantly different; as they are too often between some of the majors. I agree the height is less important but at some level it can be a distraction.

Trooper...

That picture and some of the ones I posted off LAH soldiers shows it makes not one jot of difference about slight size variations in manufacturers. The debate about whether to use CS with K&C et al is rather muts as I think its rather boring having all the figures nigh enough the same size if we want accuracy in dio's figures have to vary.

Obviously, 120mm with 60mm and 54mm is too much but, all the current 1/30th scale represented figures are workable together in scale IMO though, I am sure some would argue the point not so in painting detail but, thats another argu/debate for another day
Mitch

I think it depends on what you collect (well it does to me) I don't mind a bit of size difference with my matt figures as they are meant to be more realistic. Glossies are another story as I think rows of marching figures should all be the same. :D

I collect different scales but do not generally mix them. Don't care for the obvious size differences. Now, I do mix manufacturers within the same scale, ie., KC, TGM, and HB 1/30. Slight variances in size within one scale do not bother me. The only mixing of scales I have done involves my Skinner's Horse display which includes KC @ 1/30, Somerset @ 1/32 and hollowcast Britains, the smallest of the three. This is just an idiosyncrasy as with these I kind of like the size progression. -- Al

I'm reasonably fussy about what I show together in a display, but I have about every size figure known to man, and I love them all!

[FOR ME] scale is significant only if the different scaled figures are side by side, but that is easily overcome by perspective, distance, ground work, light and other “illusions”.

I have been in these discussions on this forum a few times and everyone has their own way of looking at and working with (or around) scale differences. Ken hit it perfectly square when he said that the height of a figure is really irrelevant. Then Trooper and Mitch followed up.

Personally I feel good about using a First Legion AWI Colonial in a scene with a K&C British figure. But they are separated by breastworks, diorama material and distance. I would even place a K&C Militia figure and FL Colonial in the same area, but I would separate them.

Bottom line is… DO what makes you happy and forget about what ever anybody else says or thinks. Just Have FUN, nothing else matters!{sm3}
