Myself and the K&C team visit mainland China at least once (or more) a week throughout the year. We see our sculpting team who are based there and visit the different factories we work with.
This, for us, is essential both to closely monitor the work, quality control it and, hopefully, head-off any disasters before they happen!
At the same time we can *****s if one factory is having production problems and, occasionally, transfer work to another to open up a “log-jam”.
We also get to see first-hand labour conditions and improvements for the workers’welfare.

This is not a critique but genuine questions.

Does this above Andy's statement confirmed my impression that different factories produces different items?

maybe that is why we have some items with more vibrant colour tones than some other K&C stuffs? For example, the Panzer IV (AK and Heer) has more lively colour tones than the Stug III (AK and Heer). or the newer crusader releases as compared to the previous ones.

and are the sculptors working individually per series or worked together as a team?
maybe this explains why some figures from the same series sometimes appear a bit different in style, some smaller and lean and some more filled.

Pls fill in my curiosity.

Thanks!

sincerely,

nasir kasmani.

My understanding is that the K & C team make a prototype example which they subcontract to a manufacturer to produce. Sometimes different manufacturers may end up producing the same article at the same time or successively.

Hi Nasir,

From direct observation of my K&Cs I ran to the following conclusions :

- figures coming with tanks or other armor vehicules are much smaller in scale and are less well sculpted and painted.. But then that's not a rigid rule since for some sets, you can see that the figures on foot coming with the armor were made as a stand alone set (AK30 is a good example for that).

- the painting of some series differ so much in quality from other series that you can clearly see which factory did this particular set. Faces really tell it all. If we look at DDay stuff, just compare the skin tones of the americans to the british.. Now I'm talking about earlier sets (not the recent ones). Americans had a tad too much of yellow in their skin while all the british beach sets are so well done, it's incredible.. Bulge americans & germans also come to my mind.. There's no way the germans were sculpted or painted by the same guys than the americans... Americans are vastly superior to their german counterparts... this is why I have most of the GIs and clearly not enough germans..

Have a good day,

Alex

Hi Alex,

i agree with your *****sment, especially regarding the Bulge series.

the german figures were good, but the americans were simply outstanding.

the smaller figures on vehicles plagues the older vehicles, like Meyer's and Rommel's halftrack.

as i will be purchasing the whole bulge releases for this despatch, i looked carefully at BG003 the german tank riders. but it looked like it will be too big for the upcoming King tiger. So it looks like i will segregate the newer bulge germans and the newer ones.

i am not too dissapointed though, as i think Andy will make more Bulge german releases later.
