Also known as: Night Time Is The Right Time - Ray Charles ( backed by the Raelettes)
On both "Ray Charles at Newport" and "The Genius Sings the Blues" LP's
First recorded by Ray in 1959. I used to have both recordings on vinyl, which were imported to Cardiff for me by a marvelous and well known independent record shop - and both were wonderful. A fire sadly destroyed both originals - but thankfully, I now have it again on a remastered CD.
Opening track on "The Genius of Ray Charles" LP. Bought it when I was 16 years old, from the guy who owned the record shop on the Corner of Charles Street (coincidentally). He would order half a dozen- or so- for lovers of R&B, pay the import duty, and sell them on. So cool for 1959 - or so we thought!^&grin
Again - lost in that darned fire - but now have it again on a CD. Great Album - with Quincey Jones too. Just about my all-time favourite record, still
How about:
Don't Let The Sun Catch You Cryin' - from the same album.
That's the one which really took off in the UK - and made him so well known on this side of the pond. Loved it then - and still do.
How about - Get On The Right Track, Baby. Originally on the LP "Yes Indeed", released by Atlantic in 1958. Another import for me - and one of my first ever record purchases - aged just 15. I saved up my pennies for months to get it!!
How about - Let The Good Times Roll - on "Ray Sings, Basie Swings". A posthumously created album, which mixes some of Ray's earlier, unreleased vocal performances - with musical backing by the Count Basie Orchestra.
