Sons of Liberty (1 Viewer)

Unfortunately, this is typical of the "History" Channel. I remember when it was actually a pretty good channel.
 
All of this reminds me of the glove slap episode of "The Simpsons". It opens with the family at the movies, watching "The Poke of Zorro". Here's the movie's plot:

"Zorro fences with the Three Musketeers and kills them before he fences Man in the Iron Mask and tells him that he should put King Arthur back on the throne. Then he fenced with ninjas before he meets a friend of the Scarlet Pimpernel. He tells her that her honor has been insulted and this will not stand. He visits an opera house where he meets the Scarlet Pimpernel and asks him for a satisfaction and challenges him to a duel. But since he's a coward, he escapes and King Arthur gives the throne to Zorro."

As the family walks out, Homer says something to the effect of, "Wow! I never thought history could be so much fun!"

That's what movies and series like this make me think of. Will they spark some interest in history? Perhaps. Will they produce a more muddied, confused and superficial belief in the events that took place, than an already superficially-educated general public already believes? More likely.

I'll pass. There's already plenty of entertaining content out there about the Revolution, that I would enjoy more than this. Heck, I think I'd even want to watch "The Young Rebels" from 1970 before this.

I thought as a movie it was pretty good but they really did stray far and wide from the facts.

lot of critics here...it's just entertainment...^&grin...

some people are better suited for books...they have no commercials...

I thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend it to anyone that has not seen it...

I am interested in their upcoming mini series...8 hours...

I watch Vikings also and am eager to see the new season...

I record all of these and fast forward through the commercials...just an idea...

I just recorded the Vikings from on demand and they had no commercials.

Speaking of historical drama, I just checked and I see that the miniseries "George Washington" (1984) is available on DVD. That's the one that starred Barry Bostwick as General Washington and Patty Duke as Martha. I remember watching it when I was in college. It was the tail-end of the era of TV miniseries. That's one that I would watch again.

It just kept getting worse and worse, but the final straw for me was during a scene from the 2nd meeting of the continental Congress one of the delegates
referred to the plan as "a Bridge too far!", Seriously??{sm2}
Perhaps since we were a colony of the British empire he might have been an early relative of Montgomery? {sm3}

Finished watching the recorded series tonight. This is just about the silliest thing I've seen. Spent a lot of time fast fwding. About the only similarity to our actual history is on the broadest terms. Yes, there was a Genral Gage, Sam Adams, American Revolution, etc. It's a video game come to the small screen.

Gage wasn't even the commander of the British army in Boston. Chris

I watched the Series on ON DEMAND and fast forwarded through the commericals. I really enjoyed the Series but I thought That John Hancock's character was a little weak. Other than the obvious historical mistakes it was enjoyable. I am just glad they are giving us some Historical Dramas to watch instead of all the other garbage that they throw out there. I will look forward to them continuing the series.

General Gage was the commanding General in Boston for the British. General Howe and Grant were his Subordinates.
