I bought a set of Steve Westons Mexican peasants the other day thinking of using them as spanish guerrillas and it got me thinking??? What else could I use to make some guerrillas?
So I started digging in my plastic figures and came up with a few more ideas!

First here are the weston figures!

A few nice poses but not enough for what I wanted to do and one had a riffle that was not period correct so that had to go and that started me chopping and thinking???
I found some Zouave civil war heads I could use while I was at it looking for a new musket.
Then I thought I could most likely make these Zouaves paint up like spanish???

What else is there I could use hanging around?

Then I found these Ideal Pirates kicking around and thought these could work pretty much as is and could also be used for parts!

Next day I had a few more ideas and again began searching my plastic bins for more figures!
This time anything that looked good was considered even for parts.
I came up with civil war figures, rev war figures and even a couple of vikings and other stuff.
I began sifting through the figures looking for ideas and started chopping and I,m still in that process now but I have enough figures to keep me busy for awhile now. here are some of what I,ve done so far still in the ruff stages.

These next figures I might get away with just painting them up as is in a spanish look or with some slight conversion work???

Some brazo figures from 1812 and civil war!

Some various REV war and Civil war figures!

Some artillery options? I have a few more in mind also.

And here they are all together!
The guerrillas also used clothing captured from the french and also spanish and british uniforms pieces as well, so there still are a lot more options!

If you guys have more ideas for conversion fodder let me know???

Hope to finish these soon and start painting up a few.

There are plenty of picture sources around for the Spanish. You've really gotten close with some of the figures. The Spanish civilian men tended to wear breeches rather than long trousers and Rev-War figures work well. The serapes you've added to some of the figures look great!

Steve Weston's Mexicans look mostly like Mexicans rather than 1800s European Spanish, but I'm looking forward to what you're going to do to them. A great subject!

Tim:

Your ingenuity continues to astound me! I am really looking forward to seeing how these turn out painted. I particularly liked the use of the woman on the artillery crew. You must have a heap of extrtas lying around to be able to find so many options.

Thanks, Nick I,m not sure if I,ll use all of them??? I,m still in the thinking process of the project, Just thinking out loud trying to get some ideas and feedback for more options.
Scott is right, the Rev war figures are closer to the true Spanish guerrilla look.

The short pants with buttons up the sides and long stockings and sandals were common in Spain but I,m sure many pour peasants would have worn long cheaply made pants and in the winter in the mountains I,m sure it got colder so that,s my excuse along with a lack of convertable figures.:p

What I really need to find are some Monks and priests!
Most of the Monks and priests were really afraid of a French take over of the country because of what the french revolution did to the churchs in France.

Religion was done away with by the revolution and wasn,t allowed again in France until after Napoleon came into power and interest in the church was not real big in France, so that had the Spanish church very afraid so monks and priests took up arms also.

I,d like to try and convert some fighting Monks. I might have to use some 2 part putty to make these guys as I can,t think of anything available in plastic other then the one in the old Robin Hood set made by Marx???

Priests in Spain Had a funny looking hat that curled up on the sides and that I,m sure I would have to scratch build for sure.

I really wish Someone would release a set in 1/32scale. I,ve seen a few sets in 1/28 and 1/72 but nothing in 1/32 other then a few hard to find castings.

I did find a few in 60mm prepainted metal but at $40bucks a pop I,ll pass!:(

Thanks Tim for your pics and conversion ideas. I also enjoyed your reference photos. John

For Priests you might find some repros of the MARX Friar Tuck figure. Delcop had one as well.

There's a notable painting of the defense of Saragossa with clergy, civilian gunners and Agostina the "Maid of Saragossa"

Tim
You have the Barzso Robin Hood Figures. They are larger.
Also, the Conte Alamo Mexican Army Heads might fit in.

An Exacto with the putty could alter the hats sufficiently.
Keep posting pictures.

Where is the photo I posted?????
Scott, Thanks for trying but I couldn,t see the photos, Last night there were boxes in the thread were the photos were but I could not see the photos and now it looks like they are gone all together???

I think I might have the photos you were trying to post anyway? I have a few pics of paintings saved of guerrillas in action.

I haven,t done much more with these because of how cold its been in the basement but I did cut the end off one of the muskets and tried turning it into a blunderbust musket.
If it comes out alright I might try a couple more???

Scott here are some pics I dug up, are any of these the ones you were going to post?

Re: Spanish guerrillas THANK YOU!!!!

Thanks for the pictures. There are WAAAAY more than the one I was going to post and you posted that one of the Maid Of Saragossa at the gun. I see you found the reenactors in Europe as well. Spain a colorful part of the Napoleonic Wars. I wouldn't want to have been a French soldier caught away from the column.

Maybe you can put the Steve Weston Mexicans in military trousers in gray or brown.

I,m still messing around looking for figures and parts but here are a few more conversions in the ruff stages. Some are just in the early stages and a few close to being ready for clean up and primer.

Here is a Marx rev war recast. I added a new hat striped from an old cowboy figure, added a cartridge box and cut down the musket and turned it into a blunderbust.
018-1.jpg

Next up are a couple more Marx rev war recasts. I added hats cut from Marx mexicans, I turned one into a top hat.
I added a cartridge box in front of one of them and and gave him a 2 part putty blanket thrown over his shoulder and I also added buttons up the sides of his pants with putty but it took a lot of work so that might be the last with spanish style button side pants.
The other figure has new arms from an Italeri civil war guy.

these next 2 figures are built on CTS bodies from the Mexican set. I like these bodies because the figures have a nice spanish style look with the short pants and sandals.
I cut off the leg and repostioned it on one of the figures and that figure is still in the real ruff stages, his arms are just kinda tacked on right now and all the putty srtill needs work on him.
I used arms from recast Marxs figures and Hat and hats from Italeri figures, a Conte WWII head and cartridge boxes striped from I don,t even know where???
These are little Frankenstiens for sure.
I had to rework the hair and added a blanket with putty also.
040-1.jpg

044.jpg

Next are a Imex Rev war figure and A Call to arms English civil war figure.
I added a new Marx recast head onto the Rev war guy and built it up into a top hat, then I cut off the arm and repostioned it and made a new hand still in the ruff stages with a piece of wire for a ram rod.
The other figure has a new Conte GI head with a cowboy hat added and a putty blanket.
I also added a ammo bag.
