Stagecoach - The Sequel (1 Viewer)

I seem to have become stuck with painting my last three Indian braves for this little project. The problem is that they are so well made ( by Tommy Atkins) - with tiny, fiddly little details - I don't want to spoil them. I have been working on them for the last week - but can't seem to get them finished. So - will post a pic now to show that I'm still at it.

I have been painting other bits and pieces too - but not relevant to this thread - so will show those later. jb

jb I agree with Jeff, these are looking great. Love the strides on the Injun in the middle:salute::

Cheers

Hi both - For the benefit of those in foreign parts, "Strides" are trousers! However, these trousers are more like leggings really - or the "Chaps" worn by cowboys. Each leg is separate. I have been looking at pictures of some plains Indians before doing those - and each leg has beadwork down each side - which I'm going to try and represent, as I have attempted with the the one with the old musket in the centre. Note that the horses are essentially the same - as are the legs of each brave. It is the top section of the body which is different - and I must admit - the detail is superb - model quality in fact.

I am (once again) very impressed with the products from Tommy Atkins ( also Fusilier and Hussar - which are owned by the same outfit), and would thoroughly recommend their range ( online), of castings to any painter. There's a fair amount of metal in each too - as they are pretty solid even though the horses are hollowed out inside ( they come in two halves).

Once these are completed - I will take some more pics of them - and also of my complete set-up - before putting them to one side. However, I will still keep looking around for some more interesting figures to add to them from time to time - as there will be room on their shelf for a few more yet. jb

I'm with you on Tommy Atkins/Fusilier/Hussar, John! I have a couple of Hussar's....hussars ;) the Prussian SYW hussars, very nicely detailed. These Indians are of the same quality, and yours look great.

Prost!
Brad

Glad you like 'em - they're getting there slowly. I have to watch that I don't overdo it though - but it's a job to know when to stop sometimes, especially when you're enjoying yourself.^&grin I'm seroiusly thinking about getting a couple of six-shooters - and joining in with the chase!:D{sm3}

Completed painting the last three of my Indian braves, (from Tommy Atkins)- so have put them in the foreground of my previous three (from Irregular Miniatures). I still have the bases to tidy up - before I add them to my Stagecoach and relieving Buffalo Soldiers. I think I will do that tomorrow - when I can hopefully catch some better light for a few pictures of the scene I had in mind from the film "Stagecoach" - all those months ago, when I set about finding my cast.;)

Loved painting these - but glad they are done at last! See you later on tomorrow for a Group Picture................. Note: it will be a "U" and not "PG" - as no blood will be spilled (hopefully - unless La Commandante catches me in her sewing room - bigger table - see!)!!:D johnnybach

Hey Scott - I think I have used just about every tin of Humbrol Gloss that I have in my armoury for these beauties - and including a few "mixes" of them too!

Great fun to do the horses to try and represent various Indian Pony pictures that I found around the Internet - and so different from the usual Darker Brown shades you have to use for the more normal Cavalry - (compare them to the US Buffalo Soldiers mounts, that I will try to post with them later on today). Lovely castings - all of them - and glad you like 'em. johnnybach

These look great jb, can't wait to see them against the 10th {bravo}}

Guess I'll have to let you borrow these

Wonderful, enjoyable thread, JB.
You did some really nice work, starting with the old Stagecoach, and now having a great "Wild West" scene going on, with everything that belongs in there, Stagecoach, Indians, Cavalry to the rescue.
Beautiful paintwork too.
Will be looking for the "group pictures" tonight.
These will make a stunning shelf display, resembling a multitude of childhood memories :wink2: ^&grin
I love this stuff {bravo}}

Cor-blimey Martyn - I haven't seen a pair like that - since Jayne Mansfield married the Sheriff of Crooked Creek!

But I want "Two pearl-handled six-guns - the kind that Ritter shoots" ( Ooops wrong thread - Song Title lyric! - Marty Robbins, of course.)

Hey Konrad - glad you like 'em too - the varnish is just drying on some bases - so am opening negotiations with La Commandante - to borrow her big sewing table. Then we'll have some fun - if I can fathom that darn camera agin!

Childhood memories? Well the outside may have a few more wrinkles these days - but I believe that inside the heart of each Toy Soldier man - beats the heart of an eight year-old.

Now where's that packet of crisps - wish I had some sherbert with a liquorice stick!

Yee - hah! Hoppalong johnnybach

The opening scene from "Stagecoach - The return Journey" - finds our intrepid heroes aboard the Stage to Lourdsville - under attack from some angry Injun braves - who are objecting in the strongest terms - to the coach taking a short cut through their Happy Hunting Grounds! "Curtail their advance through our turf with extreme prejudice" hollers the Chief ( or something like that - well - he is American, after all.)

Action - Roll 'em - and "Look out Curly, you're about to get a hair-cut - he's behind you!" ( well - it is Panto season!).

Another view from Camera 2: "Let 'em have it Ringo!"

Meanwhile - somewher nearby, a small detachment of F Troop - 9th US Cavalry ( more affectionately known to the Plains Indiands as "Buffalo Soldiers") hear the shooting and decide to investigate. "Trumpeter - sound the charge!", orders the Sergeant, drawing his trusty colt '45.

USCav01.jpg

Back to Camera 2 - for another angle of the same shot! "Ta-tara-tara-tara" sounds the trumpet. (Wish you could hear it all - pardners)

(Director's note - Pan out to far shot - showing The Cavalry hombres closing in on the fight)

And another view from the Helicopter camera: "Let's sart slingin' some lead, Men"

Shot fades out - as the outgunned Indian braves flee. ( wish I had another roll of caps for my six-shooter):cool:

Well pardners - a pretty short trailer for the movie - but such fun to make.

So to the Cast.

My original little Stagecoach - originally from Crescent - (could be from 1930's onwards), - finally got a crew from Dorset Soldiers - with a few modifications along the way. The Buffalo Soldiers were again from Dorset - and were also modified to look the part.

My Injun Braves came from two sources - the three on the similar galloping horses were from the Tommy Atkins Tribe - whilst the other three were born in Irregular Miniatures land. Make-up was supplied by Humbrol in all cases.;)

As to the script - well amigos - much was borrowed from the film that made "The Duke" a Star - "Stagecoach". The rest just came out of my imagination - planted there many moons ago by an ill-spent youth, founded in, "Going to the Pictures" on a Saturday morning - with six-pence burning a hole in my pocket.

Best-Boy and Grips ( and the loan of the table) was by La Commandante Inc.

If only I had known way back then - where it would all lead..............So, as the Lone Ranger said, once or twice; - "Adios amigos - see you soon - Hah!"

{Note: Must get some six-shooters} johnnybach:D

By the way - here's where they live now

Just nominate me - and I'll drop by Hollywood to collect the Oscars - when I can find a slot in my Diary:D

Just glad you enjoyed 'em.............jb^&grin
