The opening scene from "Stagecoach - The return Journey" - finds our intrepid heroes aboard the Stage to Lourdsville - under attack from some angry Injun braves - who are objecting in the strongest terms - to the coach taking a short cut through their Happy Hunting Grounds! "Curtail their advance through our turf with extreme prejudice" hollers the Chief ( or something like that - well - he is American, after all.)
Action - Roll 'em - and "Look out Curly, you're about to get a hair-cut - he's behind you!" ( well - it is Panto season!).
Another view from Camera 2: "Let 'em have it Ringo!"
Meanwhile - somewher nearby, a small detachment of F Troop - 9th US Cavalry ( more affectionately known to the Plains Indiands as "Buffalo Soldiers") hear the shooting and decide to investigate. "Trumpeter - sound the charge!", orders the Sergeant, drawing his trusty colt '45.
Back to Camera 2 - for another angle of the same shot! "Ta-tara-tara-tara" sounds the trumpet. (Wish you could hear it all - pardners)
(Director's note - Pan out to far shot - showing The Cavalry hombres closing in on the fight)
And another view from the Helicopter camera: "Let's sart slingin' some lead, Men"
Shot fades out - as the outgunned Indian braves flee. ( wish I had another roll of caps for my six-shooter)
Well pardners - a pretty short trailer for the movie - but such fun to make.
So to the Cast.
My original little Stagecoach - originally from Crescent - (could be from 1930's onwards), - finally got a crew from Dorset Soldiers - with a few modifications along the way. The Buffalo Soldiers were again from Dorset - and were also modified to look the part.
My Injun Braves came from two sources - the three on the similar galloping horses were from the Tommy Atkins Tribe - whilst the other three were born in Irregular Miniatures land. Make-up was supplied by Humbrol in all cases.
As to the script - well amigos - much was borrowed from the film that made "The Duke" a Star - "Stagecoach". The rest just came out of my imagination - planted there many moons ago by an ill-spent youth, founded in, "Going to the Pictures" on a Saturday morning - with six-pence burning a hole in my pocket.
Best-Boy and Grips ( and the loan of the table) was by La Commandante Inc.
If only I had known way back then - where it would all lead..............So, as the Lone Ranger said, once or twice; - "Adios amigos - see you soon - Hah!"
{Note: Must get some six-shooters} johnnybach
By the way - here's where they live now
