Story...

An epic look at the battle that turned the tide of World War II. A band of determined Russian soldiers fight to hold a strategic building in their devastated city against a ruthless German army, and in the process become deeply connected to a Russian woman who has been living there.

The scale of the battle contrasts dramatically with the human drama of the Russian soldiers, the few remaining civilians and their invaders into Stalingrad.

I didn't know the Germans had long barrel Mark IV's with turret and side skirt armor in grey at Stalingrad.

You learn something new everyday.

Someone needs to tell Wayne, he'll be happy to see more grey tanks...........................

This looks great and GREY every where as for the MarkIV,s i can see a repaint going to Johns.

This movie is just horrible. I was afraid it would be like this. Every old movie cliche there is is in this movie. It,s also sub titled. What a waste of money as it is in the Imax 3D theatre which automatically raises the price.
Let me put it this way if you liked "Battle of the Buldge" with Henry Fonda you might like this but if you liked SPR you will agree with me on this movie.
Only redeeming thing is that I did want to see a WW2 movie in 3D and a few, and I mean a few scenes were OK.

Gary,

Did the subtitles ruin it for you or was the movie just poor, with or without them?

POOR period. As with all movies with sub titles you get used to them after 15 minutes.
Pleae don,t waste any money on this film, don,t even buy the DVD.

I watched it on youtube before they removed it. Even without subtitles it was a good movie.{sm0}

Gary,
Belle and Blade is set up next to me at the show I am attending, he's got the movie and is playing scenes from it on a loop, have to be honest, it looks pretty good to me, excellent film quality and scenery, rubbled out, bombed out city, uniforms look spot on, not sure what you hated about it, was it the 9 grand it cost to see it in the Imax cinema?

I read a couple of reviews. They weren't the best but they didn't pan it either. Maybe Gary lost out on a jersey auction :wink2:

Brad from what I understand this movie has only a very short run in theatres here in the USA. I know in St Louis it only ran for a week, and then in only a very few theatres. It,s already gone. I emailed George a more detailed review of this flick, but if you like girl meets boy, boy dies, screaming Russian wipes out entire German 6th Army, one last artillary shell is shot that richochets at a right angle knocking out the German menace then of course you will enjoy this film. But if you liked SPR you won,t.

Have to agree with Gary. This is a really bad film and its a dire 130 minutes. The director has a love of slow mo to the point that it drives you mad. The characters are weak and the dialogue is so poor it should have been a silent movie.

The CGI is really poor and considering that Stalingrad for most was a close combat battle the way they have worked this makes it look fake all of the time.

the hype for this with a large budget etc, etc is just that Hype. I expected a film where the Germans are bad and the patriotic Russians are good but, its over the top. I see a number of films being poorly ripped off but, I have to say its one of the worst ever war movies I have seen.

I have not even addressed goofs and historical inaccuracy but, for one they were meeting with Field marshal Paulus several months before he was even appointed by Hitler and was still a General then.

If you want a movie to wash over you then you will love it for me I would rather dig out my copy of the worst film made of WWII the Last drop and watch that. At least that had an excuse with a budget of 50 pence this was not short of cash and should have been at least decent.

Slow motion, one on the list of effects that are crappy when over done. The others include repetitious flash backs and hallucination scenes.
