Tough week for 1960s era celebrities. Tony Dow, Nichelle Nichols, and Bill Russell. All class acts. Say what you will about celebrities, their work will be preserved forever while most everyone else will be long forgotten no matter their achievements.
I'm not a Trekie, but have seen a number of documentaries about Star Trek, apparently Nichelle Nichols broke several barriers onscreen for coloured actors. Now that she has passed there's only Three of the original crew still alive; Kirk (William Shatner), Sulu (George Takei) and Chekov (Walter Koenig). I find that the older I get the more TV shows and Movies I watch from the Good Old Days.
Tony Dow was a childhood role-model (albeit on TV) for me. Sad.
Nichelle Nichols was a favorite actress of mine (being a Trekkie) and a positive inspiration for so many in the times before every TV series threw in an African-American woman. I have seen many interviews with her. She seemed kind & had many talents and helped many people with her work.
