Suggestion for German Infantry figures (1 Viewer)

There seems to be some controversy whether these units, the 9th and 10th Panzer Divisions, were crack any more. One book I've looked at, A.D. Harvey's Arnhem, says they were mere husks of the divisions they had been in Normandy.

I thought the Paras didn't have run of the mill opposition. That was part of the problem. Was it not a crack SS unit being refitted at Arnhem by by complete coincidence? I stand to be corrected by more knowledgable members

Of course your right Damian,i was more thinking it would be good to have some more generic Germans for all our allied troops.I'd love to use the Paras and ordinary Germans in a merville Battery scenario.:)

I didn't mean run of the mill literally, I simply meant it would be nice to see some Heer Infantry instead of all the SS camo figures.

To further Panda's point, how about some British Infantry, a Firefly Sherman, a Cromwell, etc, to represent XXX Corps. You could do an entire series dedicated to Arnhem, that would be something. Andy has added to the Bulge series every winter, how about the same for Arnhem every September, he could go on and on for several years..............

I Like The Field Grey Uniforms Myself. The Sets That Are Retired Are Some Of The Best German Sets Going. They Were Some Of The First Sets I Purchased When I First Started Collecting K & C.

Iv'e got a simple but much needed suggestion IMO; how about regular old run of the mill WWII German Infantrymen? How about some panzer grenadiers wearing M1940 and M1943 tunics, M1940 trousers or M1943 belted trousers, short shaft marching boots or M1941 canvas anklets and ankle boots? No camo aside from the occasional zeltbahn and have the troops wear the standard German helmet or the M1943 cap.

Now that we've got these incredible British Airborne figures, we need Germans to oppose them. What do you lads think?

Great idea as these guys have been overshadowed by the AK releases lately.

What an excellent idea. Especially as Arnhem is definitely beginning to grow on me. Not saying I'm going to take the plunge just quite yet, but I'm beginning to have ideas for some vignettes involving the move into Arnhem during the early stages of the operation.
Cheers

Just wondering whether there was a lighter shade of infantry uniform for the eastern front , more of a lighter greyer colour, don't know much about standard colours of infantry uniforms but noticed in Stalingrad the film they had very light coloured infantry uniforms, compared to other uniforms I've seen before

RH,
Couldn't this be accounted for by natural wear & tear, dust, and fading of the original colour and suchlike? I dunno like, only guessing.

When Andy first did Arnhem back in 1995-6, K&C made several wood, metal & resin armored vehicles to represent XXX Corps., including a Sherman in British markings, a Cromwell, a Bren Gun Carrier, a Quad, Limber & 25 Lb. field gun, as well as 1 wood jeep. If you want to see my "Eindoven" diorama depicting the advance of XXX Corps. with all of these vehicles, check the old Louis' Collection thread. I imagine this time XXX Corps. will be even more well equipped.

True there was a significant SS prescence, but the Germans were excellent at forming kampfegruppe from whoever was around - one kampfegruppe (Kraft?) stopped most of the paras except John Frost's group from getting to the bridge through the town.

There were also the Normandy para drops with the other division though and they would have fought wehrmacht and SS. The Heer were the majority by far.

Not sure if the KC brit paras are distinguishable from 1st and 6th Airborne, who had some remarkable tales of their own to tell. Does anyone know?

Would still like some plain Tommies, Canadians, or .......(whinge, whinge):D

Redhugh,
The Germans from the movie Stalingrad were stationed in Italy at the time, thus they had the lighter tropical uniforms and kit. If you remember, they were shipped to Stalingrad directly from Italy via train and were reequiped with the field grey uniforms for the Stalingard campaign.

Very keen observation on your part regarding their uniforms.........

thanks for the info Warrior, as regards K&C releases would the Fallschirmjager uniform be the closest colour to the tropical uniforms,

They are a tad bit too light; if you want to see an accurate color, check out the DAK sets, namely AK 16. Many of the German units in Africa were equiped inititally with European kit, ie, field grey uniforms and jack boots. The sun bleached out the uniforms to a light green color, which ironically became the standard DAK/Sicily/Italy color.........

I would agree about the need for allied armour. I have been counting up all the German armour available and it is quite a list. The allied armour in general is lacking. There is alos a shortage of artillery pieces and this is on both sides. I am not sure why. Is it more difficult to manufacture artillery than tanks
