Hi guys,

Some of you know that I have been working on a prototype of a Nile Gunboat.
She is almost ready for the Chicago, so here are a couple of pics.
The Nordenfelt guns are not shown because I put the original in a mold today (it's very cool). More pics soon.
Chris
The K&C figure is for scale but the RN did loan the USN a boat of two in China

Great craftsmanship! That's a very nice looking boat you've got going on there.

This is going to be a magnificent Nile gunboat when completed.

There were only 4 "Tamai" Class armoured stern-wheel gunboats built: Tamai, Abu Klea, Metema and Hafir.

I think there may have been 1 x 12 pounder aboard in addition to the 2 x Maxim-Nordenfeldts.

Looking forward to more pictures.

Kind Regards, Raymond.

Absolutely a masterpiece in the making. You need to show us how you made the paddle wheels. I am a craft putz, next to your skill......What are the dimensions? I was going to make one like yours, but thought them so ugly...Made one of the new ones, instead...Michael

There is a main gun at the fo'c'sle of the Tamai gunboat model.

My apologies for missing it on the first pass,

Raymond.

Very impressive, I look forward to seeing it at the Chicago show.

Thanks for your kind words.
It was very hard to find consistent information on these boats. After many weeks of research I made contact with a gent in the UK who had copies of the original drawings from the John Elder shipyard in Scotland. Then a couple of decisions needed to be maid because they were not built as drawn.
There are many variations that could be done. Armour was added, some was removed. The deck houses were modified the guns were changed and so on.
The paddle wheel is made of brass and soldered together (it is very strong).
As time permits more to come.

Chris

If yould post more when she's at the yards or out in the drink (OTSN) that would make the day

Hi,
I just happened upon this thread and what wondering what ever became of this boat? I seem to get the drift that this was to be produced... If so, where is it available and from what company?
Thanks,
Sandor

Hello there from Australia... I too am looking at building a scratch built model of the Tamai but am having difficulty in finding any scale plans at all.
Can you help at all in guiding me in the right direction?
Kind regards
Colin
