Tarrifs (9 Viewers)

I sent this link to my egghead Penn/Wharton graduate right wing loon Trump supporting cousin................his reply; "That man is brilliant, one of my professors; ok, this gets my attention."

FINALLY; light dawns on Marblehead.

Great outcomes all around: prices already high (consumer goods, food, etc.), prices to go even higher (George is 100% right, tariffs = consumer taxes), and now our 401Ks are in the drain...on top of not being able to afford toy soldiers manufactured in China any more....

Since Trump was sworn in, there have been 10 trillion dollars in losses.............that's..........something, I'll give him that.

We have been ripped off for long enough. Now it is the turn of the rest of the world. An argument could be made that the status quo was working out for many folks but Trump has crossed that Rubicon. So now it's sink or swim. If other countries don't like the tariffs, the solution is simple. Stop imposing tariffs on the US. Maybe chip in a few bucks for their own national defense.

I wonder why some people never complained about prices over the last four years, and now — suddenly, in the past three months — it feels like we’re at the end of the world. Don’t borrow trouble.

People really do have short memories: during COVID, China refused to send us masks and medical equipment, even though they were being made in American companies' factories over there. They even threatened to cut off antibiotic supplies, which is especially concerning considering that 95% of antibiotics are now manufactured in China.

As for toy soldiers, let’s be honest — it's always been a hobby for those with a bit of extra money. If you’re willing to pay $50 for a single figure and $130 for a mounted one, then yes — for many people, that’s equivalent to a weekly grocery bill. So, realistically, you’ll probably end up paying a bit more. That’s just how it is.

China 54% tariff rate, will effect W. Britains, Collectors Showcase, John Jenkins, King & Country, Team Miniatures.
- Yes, I do believe we probably end up paying ''a bit more'' to say the least.

You left out First Legion and War Park.

I love the rallying cry Trump and his supporters wearing those MAGA hats that were made in China use about "We're tired of getting ripped off all these years!!".............

Ripped off how? American companies moved production to China and Vietnam, took jobs away from Americans to get cheap labor costs so that they in turn could "rip people off" charging the going rate for things vs reduced prices due to cheap labor costs.

How have China and Vietnam "ripped us off!!" exactly.

And Trump is demanding they move production back to the good old US of A; so what, the workers get paid an actual living wage and the retail costs triple?

That's some real solid logic right there.

And Trump wants tariffs on US goods lifted? So he thinks Asians and Europeans want to buy piece of crap American cars that fall apart after 50K miles vs Toyotas, SAAB's, BMW's, Porches, Mercedes, etc, etc......................

He's fudgeing kidding himself, all that hair spray has pickled what's left of his two ounce brain.

You really should show respect for people who hold different opinions than yours — after all, they represent half the country.

Funniest thing I've seen the past two days is Dave MAGA Portnoy/Mr Pizza review/one bite everyone knows the rules crying about losing 7 million dollars the past two days.

Sucks being him.

Someone should tell him this is just the tip of the iceberg, but don't worry, ride it out, the market goes up, the market goes down, he'll be fine.

Sure he will.

Well this got heated, I think time will tell, but it has been implemented poorly, sweeping overall tariffs, on Islands with no people or places like the Falkland Islands because they have big trade imbalances, as they buy very little compared to what they export to the USA. Ofcourse there are, very few people live there and they can only buy so much. Even in the UK, where we import way more from the USA than we export to the US. Can understand China tariffs, but US [and European] companies moved to China for one reason – MONEY. Cheap labour and a willing workforce, now the US is hooked on cheap goods.

I think the US will lose out [but only the everyday folk], as Trump has managed to unify regions in the world and create new trading partners, the Japanese, Tiawanese and Chinese are talking new trade deals, Canada are with Europe, etc.

Most economists think these tariffs are bad, and the last time the US tried this, they say it turned the depression into a GREAT Depression. Trump is talking about tax cuts late in 2025, if they are, I think they will be, mainly aimed at the rich and using these tariffs to pay for them, as it is US consumers who will pay the tariffs. Is he the anti Robin Hood.

On TS, they are a luxury and you, as collectors, will just have to just make decisions, prices go up and you will just have to pay more or buyer fewer sets. It is the dealers, who have giving you great service to feed your hobby that will suffer, it is their way of making a living, paying their bills etc. So have a thought for them, only met Matt from Hobby Bunker and have dealt with Julie from Treefrog, but everything has always been excellent with them and [for me] as, if not more, important they come across as really good people. It will be a shame if they suffer through no fault of their own, but like thousands of small compaines in the US, they will take the brunt of the tariffs.

I agree with you on cars, US cars and trucks are not as good as European and/or Japanese and Korean. Plus they are impractical for many of European places. There is a guy locally who has a Ford 150 truck and he cannot drive it down or park it in his own street and drive down may other streets, as it is just too big, his journey home from work is over 3 miles longer because it will only fit down certain roads. Plus fuel, we are currently paying $6.5 to $7 dollars a gallon, US large vehicles are expensive to run and also insure. The Cyber Truck is a big no no for the UK and Europe, it will not get passed the safety standards, so not get an insurance certificate. On the Ford 150, an American icon, according to the US NHTSA only 32% of the truck is made in the US. So Tariffs will be put on it, which is ironic, then again tariffs will be put MAGA hats as they are made in China.

SAAB went under many years ago, i miss them, had 2 and loved them, great cars. Now have a Nissan SUV, not really a 'car guy', the Nissan is cheap to insure [around $400 a year] and tax [which is $28 a year] and I get 50 MPG and have got 78 MPG a few times.

From George "And Trump wants tariffs on US goods lifted? So he thinks Asians and Europeans want to buy piece of crap American cars that fall apart after 50K miles vs Toyotas, SAAB's, BMW's, Porches, Mercedes, etc, etc."

Exactly the point I made to my wife. Read an article a few yrs ago that Toyota's standard for mean time between failure rates on parts for Corollas was the same as for Lexus models. In other words their quality std is the same for their low end cars as their luxury brand. That's far different for Ford and who's failure rate is far higher.

Do you know how you become the owner of a Jeep made after 2000? Just buy a bit of land, one will breakdown there eventually.

Best car I ever owned was a Mercedes 300E; bought it brand new, I put 225K miles on it before it died on me..............switched to a Jeep Cherokee as the business ramped up at that time and was good for putting boxes in the back and buying collections/going to smaller shows.........it started to fall apart after about 75K miles, I then began to lease Jeeps, I've had 4 since then; every 4 years, I walk into the dealership, drop off the keys and they hand me a new set and off I go for another 4 years, avoiding the falling apart stage by about 35K miles.

Trump is delusional to think these countries are shaking in their boots over his tariffs; they are actually laughing their off over it, as you said new trade agreements are being worked out as we speak, excluding the US and we're making enemies all around the world with this nonsense.

Can't wait for the shortages on non US produced goods now or worse yet, massive price increases due to retaliatory tariffs.

He's digging a deeper and deeper hole, it's the US people who will suffer.
