I picked up my first Ted Toys figure in Chicago, a Buffalo soldier on horseback, and it's an exquisite figure. It's very well painted in rich glossy colors. Sorry I waited so long to pick one up. Only space prevented me from picking up more.

In addition, they go very well with Trophy. If you collect Trophy, Ted's creations are the next best thing.

Nice figure Brad:salute::

Cheers

Hi Brad,

Outstanding! I am glad to see you picked up one of Ted's figures. I have great respect for Ted and for his talents. He produces some excellent figures that look good on any glossy collector's shelf. Once you have several of them, you will want more.

Congratulations for a great purchase! You did well.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :smile2:

Brad: Nice figure...my compliments to Mr. Deddens. I think glossies have a spot in any collectors curio. I have accumalated 15 of the 21 exquisite glossy Confederate dismounted cavalry that Guard Corps Ltd. made back in the 90's courtesy of some help from Mr. Gideon Rettich who originally showed that great lineup in this forum. He then offered up a slew of them that I snapped up in the classifieds. Still searching for the guidon/Sgt. 5 figure set to complete my display. Your posting this awesome glossy got my interest back for the shiny stuff. Gideon: Where are you...I'm begging for a photo of the guidon set...I need to see what I covet! Thanks again Brad.

Thanks all for the comments. Ted did a real nice job on this figure. I think he attends the Hackensack Show so I look forward to taking a look at his other figures then.

That, for sure, is a wonderful figure, Brad.
Ted's finish of his glossy figures is most perfect.
I very much like his ACW cavalry "on the march", about 8 mounted figures or so, available for each the Union or Confederate side.
A particularly nice combination is the two troopers, where one passes a bottle to the other.

Brad,

Thanks for sharing your new Ted Toy Buffalo Soldier. It looks very compatible in size and finish with your Trophy ACWs. If I am not wrong from a historical viewpoint, the Buffalo Soldiers did not appear till after the end of the ACW.

I had a look at the Ted Toy site after reading this thread. TedToy has some very nice glossy ACWs including a "Camp Life" section. I wonder how these compare with the Camp Randall ACWs.

Raymond:)

Konrad, Michael and Raymond,

Thanks. Raymond, you are right. I just placed it there by comparison.

Not everything on Ted's site is in stock and he has to make it.

Brad

That certainly is a very nice figure - and an excellent memento of this brave band of men.

I have long admired this monument to them - and would love a figure myself - based on him.

I believe the original monument is at El Pso - Does anybody make him in 54mm too ????

Thanks Johnny. As Martyn mentioned in the Trophy section (where I also posted photos), Trophy made one as well.

Brad

Good Lord - do you know that I once lived a couple of miles away from Len Richards (Trophy) - and didn't know about the Trophy mark - back in those days. Looks like another opportunity to own something that I like passed me by.

By the way Brad - I checked out the web-site too. I have emailed Ted Toys - in the vain hope that they might do this range as castings - with a view to painting some up for myself. I also suggested that they consider making up one of my favourite Western images - that monument in El Paso - as one of their range of Buffalo Soldiers. Who knows - if enough people ask - they just might!

They look just superb - and I take my hat off to Ted for producing them.

I sent Ted a link to this thread and he wrote back saying he appreciates the comments and was thankful they were good ones :smile2:

Hi Brad,

I appreciate the thoughtfulness you exhibited when you sent Ted the link to this discussion. Ted is one of my favorite people and I often think his excellent work is overlooked by many. Not only do I appreciate your thoughtfulness, I am certain Ted appreciates it as well.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :smile2:

Pat,

Thank you. I do think his work is overlooked by many and you can see that from some of the comments here. His work, as we realize, is excellent; the Buffalo Soldier is one of the best figures I own. As I wrote back to Ted this morning, I hope that this thread brought some attention to his fine creations.

Regards,

Brad

I think that you are absolutely right about the excellence of Ted Toys work there Brad. I don't get over-excited about many "ready-mades", as I much prefer to paint my own from castings - but I think these are just exceptional pieces of art. I don't yet know if my email question got through to Ted Toys - asking them if they would sell this range as castings - as the email address looked like it was only intended for internal USA consumption. Would you know Brad, if they ARE available as castings??

I would love to try my hand at them if they were - they look so good.

Thanks for showing him - and the link to the rest of "Ted's" creations.

If I can't get them - I will just have to put my thinking cap on - and work out perhaps, how I can get a lookalike or two - by adapting some other maker's castings.

Thanks again - johnnybach

Thanks Brad - you're a pal.

By the way, - as a back-up - I DID put my thinking cap on - and have found that one of my favourite castings suppliers in the UK (Dorset Soldiers) makes a mounted 7th Cavalry figure - and some ACW figures - which MIGHT just do as the basis for conversions to Buffalo Soldiers. I'll be seeing him next month actually, when we can discuss the possibilities - so all is not lost if,( as I suspect), Ted Toys might not supply them as castings.

What I would like to do - is make up a party to look something like this absolutely stunning picture I found. My idea is to have my Wells Fargo stagecoach - thundering accross a shelf in my cabinet - being pursued by a band of Injuns - being pursued in turn, by a band of Buffalo Soldiers. Mister Dave might be interested in that scenario - I think!!

WOW! Wouldn't that be something to make up during the cold winter months???? Yipee ayey ki - oh - johnnybach

Johnny,

Heard back from Ted. He doesn't sell castings. Sorry.

Brad

Hi Brad - not really a surprise there - as if they don't say anything about castings on their site - they don't usually do them without paint ( although it always pays to ask - as some suppliers will) Pity that - he has some very nice pieces - but that really isn't my hobby. As I explained earlier though - whenever I see something I really like - I usually think "Now how could I make that?" - and start looking around.

I have found that Britains actually made some Buffalo Soldiers in their Deetail range - a while back which look like this:

-

Okay - they aren't in the same league as Ted Toys - but they are still around - so could form the basis for conversions and more detailed painting.

However, I think that when I visit Dorset next month - I'll have a good chat with Giles - and we will see what we can come up with. I don't give in easily - when I want something.

So - all the best for now - thanks for asking for me anyway - and keep your eyes peeled pardner - for another thread with "Buffalo Soldiers" in the title at some future date. I SHALL return.......... johnnybach
