Texas Rising (2 Viewers)

Since we are talking movies I think the absolute best opening scene for a movie was Full Metal Jacket where the recruits are getting their first haircut to the song "Goodbye My Sweetheart, Hello VietNam" then goes directly to "I'm gunnery Sergeant Hartman."

I can't understand the History Channel after all the flap about Sons of Liberty allowing something like this on.

not recommending anyone watch this...
but part 4...
the conclusion...
was not bad at all...
definitely their best episode...

but to be honest...
5 years from now if it came on...

I don't think I would watch it again...

Funny, but the farther that they got away from historical constraints, the better. This episode was really just pure entertainment. Apart from names and places, very little of it appeared to be rooted in history. It was sort of like a seventy-five denouement, a tying up loose-ends, if you will, or at least an attempt to do so. It wasn't nearly so insipid as the last thirty minutes of Return of the King, so credit Texas Rising for that.

I've been complaining since episode 1 about a character that never made sense in the context of the accompanying docudrama. Last night, he got hooked up with an outlaw chick. I watched the remainder of the episode waiting for some sort of outcome. I was hoping that the woman would shoot him (or worse). However, I don't think that either figure appeared thereafter.

Again, LOL, what was the point in the sequences involving that character? The ONLY conclusion that I can attach to that question is that he/it was filler for something short of six hours of programming that ran out of script before it ran out of airtime! Too shallow for adults and too vulgar for kids, I give "TR" 1.5 stars and a prediction that one sitting will suffice for history buff and casual viewer alike.

I also thought the last episode was the most entertaining but it left a lot of things in the air such as the aforementioned outlaw chick and the erstwhile ranger. Also, what about the ranger who's fiance got killed at the bar? No grief, no revenge, no nothing? Ray Liotta's fate was kind of telegraphed and expected. All in all I think the series a disappointment even if I did watch the whole thing. The writers/producers sure didn't make much use of Buffalo Hump and gang, either. Oh well. Maybe they can resurrect Billy Bob and the Alamo crew and try again. I did like that version. -- Al

Hi Fella's, sorry to jump in late on this thread, but this Texas Rising series has just stated down here on pay TV (Sky). I watched the first episode and as a novice about this period it seemed ok to me, however judging from the few posts of read thus far it sounds like most of you think it ended up being a big disappointment. Just quickly, is it historically correct in any way or simply a big load of Hollywood fantasy and is it worth watching for an entertainment point of view?
Cheers Toddy.

It has been advertised as a 10 part series down here....and was really looking forward to it!
Struggled with the 1st episode not sure what it was?....Bill Paxton's over the top bad acting..or the annoying sepia tone!

I love westerns, but yeah this ones a bit fractured. Watched the second episode today and it's all over the show. Will continue though and see how far I get.
