Just got back from TSSD's San Antonio show. What a fantastic time! Much like last year. San Antonio is beautiful with its incomparable River Walk, historic missions (including the Alamo, of course), incredible restaurants, and many exhibits/museums. Best of all was the hospitality and good fellowship Nick and Deanna provided. Dealers and collectors were entertained Friday night with a party at Mad Dogs and Englishmen, a pub on the Riverwalk that I think Andy Neison owns (Andy wasn't there this year unfortunately). Both N & D have a way of making everybody feel welcome and relaxed, so there was lots of fun, many toy soldier stories told, and, of course, a great selection of toy soldiers to look at, including TSSD's new Germans, Steve Weston's Banditos (also evident at the Plastic Warrior show in London that a group of us attended as part of a castle tour of England), and the Marxman with some new medieval siege equipment that included huge siege towers, battering rams, ladders, wooden shields for bowmen to hide behind, etc. Ron Barzso had his new inn at San Antonio alongside his river sections (REALLY neat - I'm hoping to build a moat with mine), and his breached wall for the castle. Rick Eber was at the Texas show with lots of old plastic as were others and, as always, there was spectacular metal to see as well. Gary Dutko was at the show and was very willing to help people learn his pose changing techniques for plastics. Lovely guy. Ed Gannon had his reproduction Mexican hats for sale (I bought one last year and have had a hoot with it). He also concocted some bogus Mexican medals that were a fun to buy ($15). They'd go nicely with his hats.
The new TSSD Germans, BTW, are abt the best troops they've done so far, in my opinion. The photos on the web site don't do them justice. Multiple parts, virtually no undercutting, and terrific sculpting. The machine gun team and panzerfaust guys are the best of the group in my view.
