Hey all:

Raise your hand if you'll be at this show. Has anyone from the forum been to this event in San Antonio? If so, I would like to get any inside information or tips about the show before I head down.

Take Care

Just up the road form San Antonio but have never been to this event. When and where exactly is it?

I went last year, it's a fairly small show. You have the Alamo and the River Walk plus the show it's enough to keep you occupied. If I ever went again, I'd make sure I made a side trip to Brackettville. Kings X is about about a block from the Alamo if you need a K & C fix and the show is held maybe 5 blocks from the Alamo in the Bolivar Hall. The TSSD site lists a lot of the information you could use if you are planning a trip down there.

Its on Memorial Day weekend and I'll be there.

Now, let me see if I get this straight: your wife is with you and you went to see a belly dancer:eek: You are the man!!!!!!!!!!;):D:D

Hi, I just returned from the show. My second time, as I went last year. It is small. But, I do like the variety. I think this year the show has more variety. I hope next year they find a bigger place. It was very crowded the 2.5 hours that I was there. One older gentleman bumped into me, apologized, and with a twinkle in his eye, he said " I could keep making this loop for 100 more times." You could tell he was really enjoying himself. I found some realy bargains and really enjoyed it.

Louis,
Thanks for the update and the pics, does looka bit small but with the ecomony the way it is and this being a new show in a part of the country that hasn't seen a lot of shows, I'm sure it will grow.
I've been to the Kings X website and haven't noticed the exclusive figures you showed, very nice! Are they new? are they available? do you have to join a KingsX club?
Ray

PS No bellydancer pic's????

I hope the show continues to grow and prosper, I'm happy for Nick and Deanna, two class acts of the hobby.

I thought about going, I'd have to do what Matt did; fly in, airfrieght the product there and back. But with Kings X there with K & C, Collectors Showcase there with his product and Matt there with everything else, really can't see the point in my going. If nothing else, I'd probably make a mini vacation out of it, take my girlfriend and take one or two tables there just to show the flag so to speak.

I know of one dealer there who sells mostly plastic (if you were at the show, you couldn't miss him with his wall of plastic) and drove from PA with a van and a trailer and two other guys; that's gas from PA to TX and back, hotels and meals along the way, table fees, etc, etc. I hope it was worth it for him.........

Just got back from TSSD's San Antonio show. What a fantastic time! Much like last year. San Antonio is beautiful with its incomparable River Walk, historic missions (including the Alamo, of course), incredible restaurants, and many exhibits/museums. Best of all was the hospitality and good fellowship Nick and Deanna provided. Dealers and collectors were entertained Friday night with a party at Mad Dogs and Englishmen, a pub on the Riverwalk that I think Andy Neison owns (Andy wasn't there this year unfortunately). Both N & D have a way of making everybody feel welcome and relaxed, so there was lots of fun, many toy soldier stories told, and, of course, a great selection of toy soldiers to look at, including TSSD's new Germans, Steve Weston's Banditos (also evident at the Plastic Warrior show in London that a group of us attended as part of a castle tour of England), and the Marxman with some new medieval siege equipment that included huge siege towers, battering rams, ladders, wooden shields for bowmen to hide behind, etc. Ron Barzso had his new inn at San Antonio alongside his river sections (REALLY neat - I'm hoping to build a moat with mine), and his breached wall for the castle. Rick Eber was at the Texas show with lots of old plastic as were others and, as always, there was spectacular metal to see as well. Gary Dutko was at the show and was very willing to help people learn his pose changing techniques for plastics. Lovely guy. Ed Gannon had his reproduction Mexican hats for sale (I bought one last year and have had a hoot with it). He also concocted some bogus Mexican medals that were a fun to buy ($15). They'd go nicely with his hats.

The new TSSD Germans, BTW, are abt the best troops they've done so far, in my opinion. The photos on the web site don't do them justice. Multiple parts, virtually no undercutting, and terrific sculpting. The machine gun team and panzerfaust guys are the best of the group in my view.

The belly dancer is a knockout, BTW. Wow city. Bunch of us went last year to see her, some with wives, and returned this year.

I just got back and the show was great with more foot traffic this year so the plans for a bigger venue is coming. I will post pics later and I also got to meet Chris Mckenna which I hand delivered a repaint for him. He's a really cool guy and San Antonio is a fun place so I'm sure he did see a belly dancer. A few other cool guys I met were Brain and Compton from CS and Matt from Hobby Bunker.

Some nice pics there, thanks for posting. I google Northcoast Miniatures. The have some awesome horse drawn sets :D I think these were the folk that supplied KV with his hearse. I didn't see any mention of unpainted castings on their website. Does anyone know if they supply them unpainted ??

Thanks

Scott
