I noticed that March Through Times, a K & C Dealer, is selling via eBay the show figure that I assume was given out at the K & C Dinner, http://www.ebay.com/itm/121118519335

I'm also assuming that March Through Times attended the dinner and received the figures and not that a collector sold them the figures.

I've sold dinner figures on eBay (as well given one away) so I obviously I don't have any issue if a collector wants to do that but I have a bit of a funny feeling when a dealer wants to do that. Now, I could be totally offbase on this -- and you can tell me if I am -- and apologies if this causes a ruckus but to me it just seems a little odd.

Larry received both those figures from the show...both he and his wife attended...they both paid $50 each for admission to support K&C and KingsX just like everyone else...I believe they are classified as "retired" or "promo collector's"...I have no problem with him selling them...I don't collect WWII and I'm selling mine on there...

Larry also made some "extra contributions" at the Symposium dinner bar...^&grin

I agree with you Mike and I do collect WWII.

Let the market dictate the price. BTW, I'm keeping both of my figures.

yes...as you brought your wife to dinner you collected 2 figures...

and by the way...I told you this year as I told you last year...hanging out and talking to you is one of the highlights of this show for me...your personality is so engaging...plus you and your wife make a great couple...I can't tell you how many times I heard your "trademark insane" laugh off in the distance while I was there...

also meeting Duke (WWIIbuff)...Wayne (PanzerAce1944)...of course hanging out with Howard and Larry...seeing Martin...Andy...not to forget Nick...that show was really fun...

ps...I should also mention...Larry was a vendor at the show purchasing a couple of tables from KingsX...

The price isn't the issue. The issue is a dealer selling these figures. I'm pretty sure that at the Chicago Dinner, dealers aren't allowed to come. I don't believe it's because of this concern but I believe it should be a concern.

Not sure what the concern is ? Should all dealers be banned from dinner or just KandC dealers ? What about the unlicensed but high volume E Bayers ?

Seems to me if you pay the admission price and a figure comes with the meal, you should be able to do whatever you like with the figure. Works that way with Happy Meal and Cracker Jack toys.

K & C dealers are in a special position vis a vis a K & C dinner and I do have a problem with such dealers selling these figures on eBay. It's equivalent to some dealers who hold back sets until they're retired and then sell them at a high premium. It doesn't pass the smell test.

High volume sellers are not the same.

Brad,
Since we are talking about dealers I better open by saying I am one (that will come as no surprise to
most).

If a dealer attends a show and pays to enter a K&C Dinner dinner function then I would presume he
would get the same figure other attendees would get. If I was a USA dealer attending the Texas Show
I would be happy to pay the amount for the dinner, to listen to the speakers and the excellent company.
It would be petty of K&C not to give a paying attendeee the same deal all others were getting. Frankly
I do not think it would enter Andy's head for a dealer attending the Texas event not to get a figure.

If that dealer received 1 or 2 Dinner figures (if wife and he get one) that property then becomes his
to do with as he wishes. Anybody who has been a dealer that travels to shows will know the time,
effort and expense involved. If selling the dinner figures helps the dealer recoup some of his expenses
then my attitude is good luck to him.

Another minor point to consider. If a dealer hosts a dinner (and Chicago may be an example of this but
I could be wrong) it is probably not wise to allow other dealers who may be your competitors easy
access to your customers gathered in one place. Personally I think it is a point in favour of Texas event that it was open to dealers to attend the dinner and all mix together. The situation is different as K&C is a supplier
and also organiser of the event. I think the events in Chicago are not similar in this respect.

Similar situation to Club figures. I am a member of the K&C Club but am restricted to buying two of
each and pay same as anybody else. What I do with them after that is up to me.

I dont see a "smell" factor in this particular case. Perhaps if he listed multiples might be different.

Just the thoughts of a dealer.

Brett

Hi folks,

is this the same as PM038 Afrika Korps 2013 West Coaster Show Figure? Quite confusing. What is the difference between West Coaster figure and Texas TS figure?

Brett,

I don't agree but I made my point and will let the matter drop. However, as a dealer, you're not free from conflicts in your points. At any rate, nothing more to say about the topic.

Chris, seems to be. I wonder if the Chicago Show Figure will also be the same.

Until a couple of years ago, the underside of the base indicated the event and the year but they don't do that anymore unfortunately. It was a nice touch.

Brad,
Interesting comments. You say you will drop it but then suggest I have a conflict in my points but then you say nothing more to say on the topic.
If you drop something then drop it without a comment that could prolong a debate you decided you don't want to continue.
Like you I will let it drop but suggest you advise K&C of your issues as they provided the dealer, and possibly other dealers who were there, with the figure.

$199 for a figure well, I can see why it has a P in the title!! I have to say that I don't agree with a dealer hiking the prices like this does not really do much for the hobby IMO. What chance have we to stop the insane fleecing of collectors by fellow collectors if we have dealers doing it also?
Mitch

If a fool is willing to pay 199 dollar for 1 figure, than let the fool buy it. I mean everyone is free to ask what he wants( even dealers).

Great post and this is the bottom line, free market, free country. These figures always bring a decent amount of money and the prices are all over the place.

That is what some dealers do, to which I take a dim view. As soon as it's retired they try to jack up the price. Some dealers, like our hosts, don't do that. As long as they have it in stock, even if it's retired, it's available at the original price.

What is scary with that is it is a newly released, limited/planned production, item. These just hit the streets in the last couple days, so it isn't like it has been out for awhile, and then retired. By that logic a dealer could jack up any newly released, but limited production, item since they are retired effectively upon release. Not cool!

I think K & C should do something about this situation since the collector is getting screwed and prohibit dealers from increasing the price once it's retired. Obviously, there are situations where dealers acquire collections and in that case dealers should be allowed to charge what they want. However, with respect to items they purchased wholesale from the manufacturer they shouldn't be allowed to jack up the prices once it's retired.
