Texas Toy Soldier Show Pictures 2015 (1 Viewer)

Thanks for the photos Carlos and Mike. Sorry I had to miss the show this year but hope to be back next year.

Matryn..."GICOP"...

if you read this...

a fellow grabbed me by the arm and introduced himself...

he said you told him to look me up...

Sam Floca...Colonel, USA , Retired...

we had a nice chat...some good things were spoken about you by both of us...^&grin...

he seemed like a really nice guy...

Sam is a super guy, a Vietnam vet. Had the chance to meet him in Chicago.

Thanks to all that posted photos from the Texas show, looks like it gets better every year...Sammy

Nick eats like a bird...a very small bird...

Ok, this made me laugh..........I remember myself, Nick, Mike, John Stengel and John Stengel Jr had dinner at the Virginia Club Show last year at the Outback Steak House and when we ordered, it was Steak, Ribs, Steak, Ribs, then it was Nicks turn and he says "I'll just have the blooming onion"..........^&grin..............I don't know how he does it, but he is comical.

Mike, I know you'd be dropping some good coin on travel arrangements and you buy your soldiers on line and aren't into a lot of the older items you'd see at the show, but think of it more as a social trip.

You meet so many people face to face that you only interact with via this forum, you'd have a great time at the various social activities, plus you'd have fun roaming the halls and seeing a lot of cool items for sale in the rooms.

Plus, a lot of us gather at the bar at night, the drinks flow as do the laughs....................think about it, no pressure, it would be fun to see you in a social setting unlike the first time I met you at Hackensack when I was up to my eyeballs in customers and had to crouch down practically under the table to wolf down my chicken sandwich.................:wink2:

that's even a problem in San Antonio...
I do buy everything on line as there are no shops in my immediate area...
and I have my regular dealers that I buy from...
they depend on me as I depend on them...
I want to be loyal to them...
so I rarely buy anything at the show and I save my money for them...
however...
this year I did bring home the JJD Berliet truck and retired driver...^&grin...

Chicago...the flight...room...food...drink...etc...
would probably cost me around $1,000 to $1,500 to do that trip...
so it's a pricey little trip when you really don't buy much in person...
but again...I have no idea who or what is on display as I have never attended the Chicago show...

I personally...
would like to see more scenics at the shows...
groundwork...
buildings...
trees...
diorama accessories...
shrubs...
fences...
walls...
stuff to enhance my figures on the shelf...

I mentioned this to Andy...he said he would consider approaching a company like Woodland Scenics...or maybe an accessory manufacturer to attend the San Antonio...I think I own every K&C or JJD building that I want...but along with them...there are quite a few manufactures that don't deal with figures...they only deal with scenics...I would like to see more of them at the show...

so yeah...the trip would mostly be a "I went one year"...and a social event like you say...it's nice to put a face to the Treefrog names of the people you talk with...

yea...I remember you discretely crouched down under a table...trying to stay out of view...having to take big doogie bites to gulp down a sandwich when you had a brief idle spot at your table...eating like a Viet Cong squating in a rice paddy...I felt sorry for you...I don't think the food could settle in your intestines til you stood up...^&grin...I'm sure Larry is a big help...

Thanks for posting the photos guys! It sure looks like a great show!

Carlos-

thanks for the pictures and the effort. You really do the hobby a great service.

Would have thought KC might go with a Pike and Musket figure as their promo for the show- something to get some buzz generated for the line, but, well,,,,,it is what it is.

Thanks again Carlos.

Gotta say, the San Antonio show is my personal favorite.

The hard work that the folks from King's X put into putting on the event shows through from the mixer to the symposium to the actual two days of the show.

We'll miss being able to attend the next couple of years while we're in Europe, but that just means that we'll be crashing shows in London and elsewhere over there.

ATW!

Hey Michael mate,
How about the costs in travelling from the Land of OZ. You only have to fly up from Texas.:smile2:

The Flight: 17 hours - Melbourne to LA, then 4 hours LA to Chicago after a layover in LA

The Room: Hardly spend any time in it. Shower and sleep. Extremely Cheap. TS Show price. Sharing a twin room is always an option.

The Food: Outstanding and reasonably priced and always enjoyed with great mates.

The Drink: Well that's another story completely.^&grin^&grin

The Company: I have six day of total enjoyment meeting old mates from around the globe and I always try introduce myself to at least 5 new collectors

I think you need to give it some more thought cobber. Cheers Howard

PS I do how ever love San Antonio and the Texas Show. I am really p.....d that I missed meeting Dale Dye.

All,

Let me apologize for not doing the annual "Texas Toys Solider Show Report" and I thank Mike Miller for picking up the slack. It was a great show and I absolutely enjoy every minute of it, however this year (before the show) I blew out my right knee and am just in miserable pain. I could only attend the show for maybe an hour and change and headed home to nurse the knee. Then at the dinner we got word that a major storm was headed to San Antonio and had to leave the dinner early. The storm, floods and tornadoes have claimed around 15 lives here and around San Antonio and some people are still missing. The saddest one of all was a Prom Queen in Divine, TX who was swept away and died at the age of 18. She was on the phone with here dad when tragedy struck. So, just a bummer this week along with everything in town being delayed due to highways being shut down and the what not. Plus, the storms are not over and we are supposed to be hit again tonight. So, whew what a weekend!

HOWEVER COMMA, in that short time at the show I got to pick up one of Capt. Dye autographed books! Plus, I picked up a very, very rare paper mache (my favorite) K&C backlot building. It is the one with the clock on one side and the theater on the other and it is super cool. Also, some SOHK lions and a Ancient Egypt figure. The show was PACKED and the dinner was PACKED. I just could not get in the spirit because of my knee pain and all of you know when you are in pain you are miserable!

Hung out with Mike Miller, Doctor Nick, Mark, Paul, Steve, Wayne and the rest of the Toy Soldier Junkies. The food, friends and atmosphere was absolutely enchanting. But, what stole the show (next to Gordons new dio) was the diorama by the Kid Flores. I mean it is just massive and you could look at it for hours and find new nuances. The kid has talent and I wish I had the bucks to buy one of his "works".

I hope to see some of you in Chicago as I am seriously planning to go. Hopefully, my knee will be in better shape by then and I will be able to move around better.

Thank you K&C and Kings X Staff for putting on awesome show!

Mike you stole my Fajitas when I wasn't looking, Mr. "I haven't eaten since this morning" dealer extraordinaire. Dinner there at The Menger is always very good, but the company is even better!

Your brother,

John from Texas
