If you like really hard core science fiction and end of world scenarios then you have to see both of these on HBO:
Westworld - Take off on the original movies by Michael Crichton, author of original Westworld story and Jurassic Park. This new version of Westworld really takes science fiction to the next level. There are so many twists. It is on third season now. Sometimes the plot seems confusing because there are so many "layers". But really makes you think about what is the definition of being "human". First season starsAnthony Hopkins.
The Leftovers - Now this series is REALLY the off the charts - science fiction, religion, doomsday, end of times, good and evil, it covers it all.
Short description:
"Thee years after the disappearance of two percent of the global population, a group of people in a small New York community try to continue their lives while coping with the tragedy of the unexplained nature of the event."
We watched the prior seasons of Westworld when they first aired but I didn’t enjoy the first episode of the new season and haven’t watched since.
Other series I’d recommend:
Curb Your Enthusiasm (the best!)
Parade’s End (one of my favorites)
The Outsider
Big Little Lies
Sharp Objects
True Detective
Mrs. Fletcher (it’s a riot!)
The Brink (a shame it was only one season)
Family Tree
Olive Kitteridge
Righteous Gemstones
Vice Principals (very funny)
What I like may not appeal to everybody so as the saying goes, your mileage may differ.
both Righteous Gemstones and Vice Principal are hilarious...
HBO has the habit of using the same actors in recasting for new series...
if they find someone they like...they pick the cream of the crop...and cast them in new series...
a lot of their actors have built careers off of their HBO series introductions...
HBO started and advanced a lot of careers...big successful careers...
just to name a couple...
Ian McShane...Deadwood
James Gandolfini...Sopranos
Oz advanced a ton of guys...J K Simmons...Christopher Meloni...Dean Winters...
Just about to watch episode 22 the last of the series ROME, a little violent, but an intriguing story line and some inspiration for my Roman collection. Robin.
