The Adventures of Robert Rogers…October 1759

Episode 5.....

The camp broke early the next morning, before day break, with the Rangers getting an early start on their mission.

As they advanced quickly on foot, the harsh weather persisted and a heavy snow blanketed the ground. Travel was slow and tedious at best, but these men moved as quietly and as rapidly as possible in their full winter gear. The terrain was densely wooded and extended vision was limited, moving forward was a physical chore in these harsh conditions.

The adventurers pushed on toward their destination, knowing that an engagement was close at hand. Surprise would be the key element now and the Rangers pushed forward in a confident manner.

Packing only the necessities for a “hit and run” strike, they advanced closer to the area where their sources said they would find the Indians.

Two of the advanced scouts, seeing fresh signs on the ground, motioned for the men to get ready, he knew they were close, very close Everybody checked that their load was primed and dry.

Suddenly, seeing his hunted prey in the clearing in front of them, the scout halted his group with another hand signal, knowingly, the Rangers quitely fanned out around their enemy.

Episode 6.....

On his next hand signal, a volley of shots rained into the unsuspecting Indians. From behind every rock, tree and bush, the Rangers had taken cover and fired with meticulous accuracy. The first round of fire dropped 8 Indians.

The Indians immediately recognized the green jackets of the Rangers as their alarm now turned to panic. The hated Rogers and his Rangers.

They knew well of Rogers reputation as he was despised and feared by their tribes. His daring raids in the past had cost many braves their lives and the Indians respected and dreaded this man.

First blood and plenty of it...the Rangers had successfully ambushed the Indians of superior numbers without their enemy even getting a shot off yet.

Episode 7.....

The Ottawans hysterically screamed and in a panic shot aimlessly at what seemed like hundreds of Rangers everywhere. Wasting their first rounds at targets that seemed like ghosts, the Indians shrunk in fear.

The Rangers stood their ground in the frozen terrain behind cover as the Indians recklessly and disorderly tried to regroup. Calmly and methodically reloading, then taking aim, the Rangers devastated the surprised Ottawans with “fire at will shots” now.

Mad for blood, the accurate firing of the Rangers continued in a frenzy, while the Indians were overwhelmed. For the Ottawans, movement and reorganization was hampered and mobility was difficult if not futile in the deep snow.

Rather than advance and attack, they Ottawan Chief gave the command to retreat. As the Ottawans began to flee, the Rangers stood their ground and poured even more fire into the disorganized retreating Indians. Gunfire echoed through the trees as round after round was delivered by the Rangers.

Heavy casualties had dropped on the Ottawan side after just a few minutes, while only one Ranger was wounded. As Rogers position became more advantageous…the Ottawans position became more precarious. The Indians threw themselves into complete retreat now as their casualties continued to mount.

Carrying off their wounded as they could, the Ottawans fled.

Episode 8...the conclusion...

One lone Ottawan trying to escape, ran head long into a Ranger hiding behind a rock. The Ottawan never saw him.

The battle was officially over now.

As always…

scalps were the trophies of the day. “130 pieces of Eight (a type of coin) were paid for the scalps of male Indians.

Rogers, while he not openly encouraged the practice of scalping, certainly allowed it. It was common on raids to allow his Ranger to plunder what they could carry, and scalps were easy to carry. This day, 23 scalps were taken. The Rangers knelt over the dead and wounded, removing their prizes.

Helping the one wounded Ranger, they quietly and quickly made their way back to the whaleboats.

A very successful mission, the Indians raiding the Northern Colonial settlers now knew, they were not out of the wide reach of the British Empire’s arm.

With the safe return downriver by whaleboat, the mission was concluded and the legend of Robert Rogers grew.

Great thread. I'm going to have a good read of the story later!
I liked the old comics adverts too - i always remember the Sea Monkeys. I thought they really were little families living in a fish bowl!

Thank you Eazy...

All 57 photos taken were with John Jenkins figures only...

Mark can you just imagine what he'd come up with if he ventures into another series. Sure would be nice to see what he'd come up with. Rorke's Drift I'm sure would be a hit;););):D:D.

Yes.........a happy ending...........

my fictitious cartoon story was probably one of the few battles that the Rangers actually won...

An awesome comic book Mike. Looking forward to anymore that you may put together.

Perhaps a few different ones, then into a hardbound book :)

Scott...

you know...

it was fun...

I wish I could narrate more like UKReb...

but as I'm sure he would say...

the figures really dictated the action of the story line more than you can imagine...

Rangers from St. Francis in short sleeves...

Rangers in whaleboats from St. Francis...

the Rangers from Snow Shoes in snow shoes and full winter gear...

even some of John's Frontline RR's...

I had the same problem with the Indians...

some from Battle of Monongahela, some from St. Francis and some from Snow Shoes...

I actually had to bury the snow shoes in snow...hahahaha...:)

I even had to make the fort a Provincial outpost to use the Virginian figures...

but it all worked out...

what I really wanted to do was use John's figures and nothing else...

kind of a purist thing...

Like I said...it was fun...I had enough figures to make a few chapters...

We all have our own styles Mike, and I enjoyed this just as much as I enjoy UKREB's storyline.

I am hoping in a few months to do something similar with the AZW figures from Britains. I just don't have quite enough figures and scenics yet and the new releases should hopefully fix that :)

Stay tuned :D
