Guys

I threw in a low bid for this on UK EvilBay and basically forgot about it until prompted by the seller that I had won it.

I believe it comes from the Conte Alamo playset but I could be wrong as I have not seen it before, but then again very few Conte bits are readily available here in the UK. I had no idea of the scale when I placed the bid but when it arrived this morning I was really impressed with the size (figures placed for scale include a Britain's and a 54mm female figure) and the great looking finish/detail for what is no more than a lump of hard foam. It came in two parts which are just slotted together although it needed a bit of trimming and will obviously need a lick of Dulux to highlight the brickwork but all in all quite a nice little package for just a couple of pounds. I have no doubt it could be used for all dio eras or even for aquariums ;)

Any of you familiar with this Conte piece and are they still available Stateside?

That piece came with one of the Conte Alamo playsets. There were about 4 Alamo Sets Conte released.
As usual Contes foam pieces are excellent. The only problem with the Alamo foam is that they are not painted.

But Gary a little time and effort with a paint brush and some paint does wonders for them. All of my Conte foam pieces residing in my Land of the Zulus came un painted but painted up nicely and don't be surprised if we see the well making another appearance painted. Set a task for you Reb.....The Lt.

Reb congrats on your win i did se that on EvilBay (even thought about getting it for my Normans).
Any way its from the Alamo Playset 2 there were 7 Playsets all up :)

Hey Reb it will float in your aquarium...it's foam!
This is another one of the scenics I sculpted while working for Conte some years ago. With a little paint and rigging a pulley and rope it can work quite nicely for several periods.
When I paint these I usually prime them with inexpensive auto primer, flat black followed by a dusting of light grey and then light earth.
This is followed by some dry brushing with some acrylic paints to highlight and detail and you are done.
I really don't know if Conte still offers this as a new product, but they are often in the secondary market.

Reb, congratulations on your win.

Looks like you got a pleasant surprise email on a low forgotten bid.

Great addittion for your set.

We can get another extra chapter now I hope.

I agree with Joe, a little paint, a little drybrush and you will have a showpiece for a nice diorama

Great buy,

Michael

Nice piece Reb.
I haven't got this one (yet!), but it looks a nice piece, as is usual with the Conte terrain pieces.

Ken,
Your quite good at this sculpting lark. Ever thought of doing it professionaly? ;)

This looks an awful lot with Conte's "Splish Splash". A medieval well with dead Saxon, torturing Viking and tortured Saxon. Quite a jolly gathering...

I guess Conte uses those pieces over and over again. Who wouldn't? They are great!

Yes, I think the well is the same as used with their Viking Raid line but there it is in polystone I believe.
Sure a very nice piece, wether in hard foam or polystone.

Nice find Bob! It should go well in your Alamo Dio. Are the ACW and Alamo dios up together?

Thanks for all your posts guys-took note of them all and you are right it certainly does paint up well for just a piece of foam.

Needed quite a bit of filing and trimming to get the two pieces snugly fitted. Kept the paint scheme to the original adobe colors and as I liked Kogu's picture of the Viking/Saxon well with rope and bucket-Molded rope/pulley and bucket to suit the Alamo era.

Just got to figure out now how to put it in the Deguello dio:confused:

Good job Reb, much improved look with a lick of paint.

Re where to put it in the Deguello dio, how about in the place where they get the water from? You know, in the space, next to the thingy structure.

Always get a fuzzy feeling from helping out with useful suggestions. :);)

Historically the well was not far from the South Gate, probably half way between the 8 pounders behind the South Gate and the low wall of the courtyard of the Chapel.

Hi Ed,

Isn't that what Simon said? :D:D:D

Warmest personal regards,

Pat ;)

Hi Pat,

Yes, I guess so, but I was making an attempt at being just a tad more specific. A weeeee bit.

Hi Ed,

I think you succeeded in your attempt to add just a weeeee bit of specificity to Simon's description of the correct placement of the well.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Heck, Reb is a smart guy, he'd have figured it out from my directions as well. :D

And there was me thanking you guys for your all of your helpful comments-That'll teach me to jump the gun:D
