The Albatros have landed!!! (1 Viewer)

After receiving the Voss Albatros and being quite pleased with it, I decided I wanted the Richthofen Albatros, as well. Because of the limited nature of the release, all were long gone, however. I asked my dealer to try and locate one for me, if possible. Well, he did it. In a couple of weeks I will be the owner of the red Richthofen Albatros, to go with the Voss version. This will be historically accurate as the two men were friends:smile2: I will now have 2 KC Richthofen figures, though. The first thing I intend to do with the red Albatros is paint the nose in the historically correct color of red, to match the rest of the plane. Still don't know why KC painted it silver. At any rate, I am thrilled to be able to get it and it will sit on the shelf next to the JJD Richthofen red Tripe as a sort of homage to the man. -- Al
After a delay due to chronic bad weather on the Western Front, reports are coming in that a red Albatros has been reported making it's way towards my aerodrome in Germantown (how appropriate is that?^&grin), and due for arrival early this week. Been a long wait, but der Rittmeister is coming home. Reports to follow. -- Al

The red Albatros landed today and I am very pleased with it. I immediately broke out the red paint and brush and corrected the nose from silver to red. It looks great on the shelf next to my red JJD triplane. The JJD Baron and the KC Baron are having a lively discussion about the various attributes of the two aircraft as I type this. :D -- Al

Glad you got the red Albatros! I think it will become a real K&C classic - even with the silver nose. I couldn't bring myself to paint it though, so mine's still silver. Fingers crossed for some ground crew for tomorrow's dispatches....

Boy am I glad I bought these planes when they were released!!!

Check out the prices they're fetching on eBay:

This is indeed remarkable. These are the same two Albatros I have, both purchased at issue price. Mine will not be worth this kind of money because I corrected some color errors, but still, that kind of price increase so rapidly is interesting. Must be driven by the very limited nature of the numbers that were released. -- Al

I'm glad that they've gained so much in value but I hope that K&C doesn't release the rest of the WW1 planes in limited numbers. If they do I would hope that they spread them out to at least 1 a month. 3 planes at one time sure hurts the wallet and if you don't have the $$$ for all 3 you have to pick and choose which one to buy.

This is a legitimate concern. I bought the Voss Albatros by itself because of the cost factor and to see if I liked them. I did, but by the time I decided to get the MvR version they were all gone. Fortunately for me, my dealer found one for me last month which I was able to get this month, at original retail. Personally, buying 3 aircraft at once is impossible. -- Al

Congrats Al, glad to see your elation getting the piece you wanted! A bird in the hand is better than two in the bush!:D Ollie.

Thanks Ollie. My problem is that I now have 9 birds in hand and the landing field is getting crowded!{sm2}{sm3} -- Al

Good lord! I don't mean to hurt feelings, but those prices are completely insane. I can't remember any other TS item, made by anyone, that has been able to command these kind of percentage over retail price increases, this fast after their release date. They are just a few months old! They are nice planes, but they are not made of gold. I guess their relative rarity and sombody with DEEP pockets is driving these prices. -- Al

The Goring Albatros finished at $800.00 and the Voss version finished at $577.00. Just insane. -- Al

Not an Albatros related post, but has anyone heard anything about the KC Fokker D-7's that were previewed last fall? -- Al

I have been wondering the same thing ?? - I want to expand my German WWI Airfield ! ^&grin

I see there are two of the Albatros listed on evil-bay this AM. Two different sellers and two different versions. The Voss (and IMHO, the best looking of the trio done by KC) is listed with a starting bid of $401.00. The Goering version is listed with a starting bid of $499.00. These are big numbers. I have also noticed that these two versions have been showing up for sale on previous occasions but that the red Richthofen version is not. I find myself wondering why the MvR version hasn't showed up and what kind of price it would demand when (or if) it does. I am very pleased that I was able to purchase the two versions I wanted, (the Voss and MvR), when they were issued. I did not pursue the Goering version and have no plans to, but at current asking prices I wouldn't even consider the other two at this point. These models were good deals at their issue price for a WW1 airwar addict like me, but wouldn't even be on my radar at the current $4-500 level. I will be taking a hard look at the Fokker D-7's when they appear, but obviously will have to make a fast decision if the Fokkers are produced in the same limited numbers that the Albatros were done in. -- Al
