The Albatros have landed!!! (1 Viewer)

Anybody have any info on the possible release schedule of the Baumer and Udet Albatros that KC previewed? I know with the D-7's just now getting here, that the release of the Albatri is probably a ways off yet. Just curious.:wink2: -- Al

The first 3 Albatri and the 3 Fokkers were previewed about 5 months before they appeared in dispatches, so I would guess sometime around September. Just a hunch, I could be wrong.

I didn't track the lead time from 1st appearence to release. Sounds like good info to me. Thanks. -- Al

I got the Voss Albatros today and I have to say, I am much more pleased and impressed than I expected to be. There is a danger in trying to evaluate from just photos. Size next to my JJD planes looks just right. As others have commented, the finish is not glossy and it looks great in matte. The paint job is excellent, as are the markings. Both are very crisp. It is a very colorful craft. The only real beef I had with it, and it was the same with all the KC Albatros, is that it has more of the D-3 characteristics than a D-5. To be honest, that is the kind of thing that probably bothers only me, and I can live with it as a D-3 on this excellent Voss version. One color inaccuracy is the spinner. For some reason, all the KC Albatros come with silver spinners. This is inaccurate. All three Albatros are well known, as are their colors. The Voss spinner is most likely red (black is a possibility). It took me 5 minutes to correct this with a bottle of Testor's red paint. It now looks fantastic. I have other, minor quibbles that I don't want to bother going into, as, once again, it probably bothers only me. Overall, I am very happy with this model and am quite glad I got it. I don't believe anyone who gets one will be disappointed. The Voss pilot figure is very well done. Outstanding paint job. I also got the von Richthofen figure which is equally well done and painted, though I think the von R figure is a bit too tall. KC has done a very fine job with this model.{bravo}} -- Al
Forgive my resurrecting this old thread but ongoing research has altered my opinion on one of the aspects of the Voss Albatros. I previously was of the opinion that the spinner on the Voss plane was red but I have now become convinced that the spinner was black. Keeping in mind that colors on WW1 aircraft can be a minefield of opinion and best guess, the spinner was most likely black to go with the white tail marking of Jasta Boelcke. Jasta Boelcke's markings at the time this particular Albatros was in service (summer 1917) were white tails and black noses so it goes to follow that logically the nose would be black. The new info that convinced me comes courtesy of Lance Bronnenkant in Vol 6 of The Blue Max Airmen. Looks like I need to break out my Testor's black. -- Al
