It's true. The first 50 King Tigers had a Porsche turret which had a curved mantlet (and curve on the left side for the commander's cupola). Not only were the curved surfaces difficult to make, the curve on the underside of the mantlet created a very large shot trap which could direct an AT round into the thinner deck plate armour. The Henshel turret eliminated the curves with a flat mantlet and this eliminated the shot trap.
