The Ed Ruby Collection, May 2012 (1 Viewer)

Beautiful grandaughter, Mike. I have one who is 8 y.o. and is the apple of granddaddy's eye.^&grin -- Al

Thank you Al, I am glad you and I see eye to eye. Granddaughters are something very special. She is the only grandchild we will ever have, but I am embarrassed to say I was originally disappointed when I heard she wasn't going to be a boy. I must have been out of mind. How dumb. Little girls are so much more complex, sophisticated, and interesting than little boys. I love her more than anything on the face of this earth and I have spoiled her rotten, but I can't help it.

Here are a few more photos of the military artwork that Ed has collected.

Chris, I am happy to have been able to share these collections with you and other Forum viewers. And thank you above all for your comments regarding my granddaughter.

I hear you. The way things are right now, our granddaughter might well be our only grandchild, but that is not written in stone, yet. She is a sweetie pie and smart as a whip. She is capable of a lot more at her age then I ever was and her knowledge about today's technology leaves me in the dust. Our one regret is that my son moved to Cleveland for his job and we no longer get to see our granddaughter on a regular basis. We had a good start on spoiling her rotten, but it's harder now.:wink2: Grandkids are the best. -- Al

I am sorry to hear that she has moved away; that must be hard to take. We offered to take our granddaughter and raise her until she was a teenager, but for some reason my son and daughter-in-law said no. She has her own bedroom at our house. We have contemplated what we would do if they moved away---we have decided to follow them if that happens. It is so much better being a grandparent than a parent. I am much, much better at it.

I found a couple of photos of some of the members of our group taken a few years ago at Ed's house. In the first photo from left to right: Jerry Weir, who is one of the youngest members; Ed's wife, Fay, with her back to the camera; Scott Morlan, a high school teacher who was one of the founders of the West Coaster Show; Bob Walker, CEO of Walker Foods; Mark Young, a professor at USC's graduate business school; and Alan Green, an attorney with the Riverside Country District Attorneys Office. In the second photo from left to right: A non-toy soldier collector friend of Ed's whose name I have forgotten; the late Neal Crowley who owned Parade March; Bill Connolly, the former owner of the Toy Soldier Exchange shop in Pasadena; Bob Philips, a retired homicide watch commander with the Costa Mesa Police Department; and Joe Lesney, a retired real estate/shopping center developer.
