The Highwaymen (2 Viewers)

Nobody and I mean nobody tells a story like you do, I'm in hysterics reading this...………………..my advice is go to a comedy club during open mic night and give it a shot, the worst case is you bomb, the best case is you become the next big thing...……..you're welcome.

Agree mate great yarn

Watched the show Sunday night and what I like is it showed a different side of America that I never know about with poor family’s leaving in woods

Mate watch American pickers and see how some live brilliant show.

Saw it yesterday and enjoyed it! Good acting by Costner who is quite convincing as Hamer. Harrelson also did a good job. The production was very good, and paid good attention to details of the 30’s, from wardrobe to cars, guns and interiors. I was surprised by the support and celebrity status B&C actually had. I knew there was a certain level of admiration of them by the public, due to the perception that they were robbing banks when these same banks were massacring people due to the depression, but not on the level the film shows. It’s definitely B+ IMHO!

I just to add one more candle to the admiration for this film. Ditto on everything that Sentaapus mentioned.

Far better than the Warren Beatty Faye Dunaway film. I always like Woody and I am neutral on Kevin, but they both did fantastic acting jobs in this film.
If you haven't caught it yet, you should before it disappears from NetFlix

American gangsters of the 1920-30s would make a nice series for some toy soldier manufacturer. Lots of possibilities. I know Black Hawk did something like that, but frankly I didn't think their figures were very good. Imagine what others could do with B&C, Dillinger, Capone, Baby Face Nelson? Maybe some day.

I agree with the idea that (DONE RIGHT) the 1920's - 1930's Gangsters would make a very interesting series.
Ya' Blackhawk tried, but they just didn't carry it off to the level of a K&C, TG, CS and Jenkins. First Legion could also do the smashing job but a different scale & style. The possibilities are fun to ponder. ^&grin

All,

This is a GREAT FILM! I am so glad that the film focused on the Rangers instead of the gangsters. In fact, we never see the faces of the gangsters until they are shot. Plus, it was GREAT to finally see "Ma" Ferguson on the screen. The humor was great too, with intersection of old school rangers and "new" law enforcement methods.

Now, there just needs to be a film about Texas Ranger "Lone Wolf" Gonzales who according to the American Gas and Oil Historical Society made a legendary appearance in Pecos, TX:

“He was sent out to Pecos one time to stop a riot out there, added Wise. “When he got off the train there was a great posse waiting to greet him, and when they saw he was alone, they said, ‘Where’s all your help Mr. Gonzaullas?’ and he said, ‘There’s only one riot isn’t there?’”

One riot, one Ranger.

My wife and I finished watching this film yesterday, we both enjoyed it very much.

Little piece of trivia - this was directed by John Lee Hancock. He is a Texan. He directed the 2004 Alamo film starring Billy Bob Thornton. I did not realize until the end credits that Hancock was the director. But as I was watching the film I thought if not for Costner, Billy Bob Thornton would have been my choice for Hamer. But Costner and Woody were both excellent.

Warning Spoiler ahead:
Anyway, I liked the film, and I especially liked that they did not reveal the Bonnie and Clyde characters on film. You were getting the perspective of those characters the same way both Texas Rangers were getting them, through bits and pieces and third parties. They never saw who they were after. They weren't sure what they were up against. Also in the ending scenes, after the ambush, you got the sense that both Rangers were not really happy with the final outcome, but it was a "job" that had to be done. Overall a solid film.

Watched this last night.Like most others I enjoyed it very much.
